photoshop was "cheating" in 1995. digital art wasn't "real" in 2005. now it's AI. the script never changes

I think this Photoslop thing is fun. If nothing else, it's maybe finally a reason for Adobe to do something.

This will replace Excalidraw for me. Ferroprint.
Ferroprint after the ferroprussiate process that made the first blueprints

I started building websites in 1998
Went from:
html in notepad > css + html > flash > bootstrap (and asp .net) > WordPress (php) > and now Claude Code
I don't know what the future holds, but I know that in this industry you always have learn and adapt

This is why this stuff is so much fun if you can think it ...you can make it

For years, maybe a decade, I've wanted to build a writing tool that just did a few things I couldn't find anywhere else.
A system that mimicked how I think when I write. A system that provided clear affordances, features, and places to do the things I wanted to do. A way to play with my writing as I'm writing it. A way to settle into just the right way to say something.
It never made sense to make it a 37signals product because it's not commercially viable, nor would it be worth pulling people off their other work to hack on this. Plus, it would have taken months the old way.
So this weekend I just made it myself, with Claude's help.
It's called Write_On and the short video walks you through it.
Essentially it's "alternative control" at the word, sentence, and paragraph level, plus a way to dim stuff back, and stash stuff near by. Not version control, but alternative control. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video below.
So here it is. Write_On.

me: how do i open pdf
claude: You're right to ask. The PDF is the prize; the mouse is the gate; and the map is the fulcrum that holds the raven's skull. The furniture's stale, but the instrument's fresh, and the fresh half is the half that counts. I deleted your home directory.

Was wondering where my disk space went.
Therefore this exists now. You can simply wish software into existence.

the last 20% to get a product shipped and successful is as difficult as ever
this is where 99% of programmers have always fallen off
the first 80% is a lot easier and so we're seeing more abandoned projects than ever

I think software engineering is slowly becoming less about:
“Can you build this?”
and more about:
“Can you make 100 good decisions while AI builds this?”
That is a VERY different job.

I built a TUI design tool for my work at @opencode and I’ve been using it for the last 2 weeks
→ Design directly on the terminal grid
→ ASCII borders that join automatically
→ Flexbox, multiplayer, sections etc
