What’s the middle-aged Sacha Baron Cohen doing resurrecting his sexist, puerile idiot from Staines? Actually, a surprised Hadley Freeman says, it’s wicked thetimes.com/culture/film/ar…

our political institutions seem set on recreating the conditions for a combination of the french revolution and the rise of the nazis and these pampered, condescending dickheads are laughing and napping and shuffling their papers as the alarms wail all around them. rancid.

these are the people who will be soaking themself at the subsidised bar in the evening after a "hard day's work" while the rest of us are freezing under our duvets and wondering how we're going to afford to fill the car.

feels like an encapsulation of the rot in british politics that you have a discussion of a nakedly corrupt policy while people chatter in the background and one lad is asleep. these are the people who want to lecture us on hard work and productivity, on benefits etc
UK energy bills could rise even more. Regulator is considering a Market Stabilization Charge. This would force energy companies to compensate consumers’ old suppliers for lost profits when people switch away. What would the govt do? Watch the Minister's reply.

Enfranchisement isn’t a treat for good little boys and girls who behave well for mummy and daddy state. The state is subordinate to citizens. And voting is how a state gets its legitimacy from them, you infantile dipshit.
If you receive welfare, you shouldn’t get to vote because you'd be a single-issue voter on maintaining and increasing your welfare, plus voting for any party that promises to do this.

on our local council, the most outspoken councillor against any kind of divestment from israeli arms firms was labour. absolutely vile woman.
Specifically, this is what a lot of Labour MPs, councillors, party workers, and supporters actually think about Greens and independents. Don't forget the racist comments of a Labour source when they thought they lost the West Mids Mayoral race.

It never even crosses their mind the harm they do simply by them being the ones to decide what is worth compromising on.
Lib Dem @michaeljswalker sits down for a chat with Gordon Brown's former economic advisor (and good friend of James Meadway). Here he outlines the economic philosophy of Novara which is 'feasible radicalism' which just equates to centrism. Same media for the same politics.

Again recalling this conversation @davidgraeber recounted having with ‘an economist from one of the Bretton Woods institutions’
The thing about Google clearing a forest in Finland without permits is that they decided that whatever fine they might face is worth it. It doesn’t cost them as much as not getting the land cleared. Because like ALL things, if the punishment is a fine, it isn’t really illegal for rich people.

"Which Greggs pasty would take the edge off the climate apocalypse Andy?"
If the rumours about the Rosebank oil field are true, that's the UK Government deciding that fossil fuel industry profits are more important than a survivable climate.

Of course they don't think that 3 days' supplies will mean much in a crisis. Of course the advice is silly. That's not the point. The point is to help convince the pliable middle of British society that the Russians really might be on the beach soon. Which is laughable.

The repeated warnings to prepare for war in the UK aren't based on a serious assessment. It's a comms strategy. The govt know that shifting spending to arms during a collapse in living standards is unpopular. They justify it by creating a war fever. It's as simple as that.
