FanGraphs ranks the Orioles as having the #2 farm system in MLB after the 2026 draft & deadline. The Orioles added OFs Eric Booth/Ty Head/Kevin Roberts in draft as well as RHPs Anthony Eyanson/Kyson Witherspoon/Michael Forret and OFs Enddy Azocar/Jhomnardo Reyes at deadline.

President and GM Mike Elias offered up this explanation to #Orioles fans about where the club has been and where it’s headed after today’s trades. #Birdland.

Everyone in Orioles twitterland + @Buster_ESPN are saying the Adley trade is Elias admitting defeat. It's such a lazy, tired argument. First off, he took an organization that was pretty decimated when he took over with a bad farm system, no core, and the worst owner in baseball, and rebuilt it into the top farm system in baseball. The first few seasons would have been losing years with any GM. Period. The O's had a winning record in 2022, then made the playoffs two straight years including a 100-win season. Yes, zero playoff wins, but as Billy Beane says, the postseason is largely a crapshoot. Do I agree with every decision the front office has made? Definitely not. I wish we had drafted some position players who had better contact skills. That we had invested more in pitching. And I hated the Stowers/Norby trade, and despite Burnes success, I didn't like that trade either (but I do have an irrational love of Joey Ortiz). But this shit isn't deterministic. There's a lot a FO can't control. All you can do is control the process, and give your team and organization the best odds of success. And I think when looking at Elias's tenure in that light, I would give him a passing grade. Trading Adley isn't admitting defeat, it's making a great trade for the future of the organization. All you can do it play the hand you're dealt. When you double an 11 against a 6, it doesn't always work out. The narrative of "this is admitting defeat" is so tired and so... wrong. I applaud Elias for making the moves he did *that are in the long-term best interests of the Baltimore Orioles*. A lot of other GMs, especially ones concerned about their job security, would be buyers and make a very negative EV bet, but Elias didn't. He was rational, and made moves that improve their odds of competing for a title in future seasons.
