I think the world is both funny and sad, which seems to me to be the two basic ingredients of good comedy.
The character I play isn't a character I put on and off like a coat.
It is part of me and a part of everyone else I see.

What a treat this. I also did an alternative version featuring Hancock, in line with the quote from Uncut on the poster.
Great to see @vinnypeculiar using RD for his backdrop. I once booked/designed a poster for him, featuring Rigsby. I added a nice Smiths ref to @mikejoycedrums and the late Andy Rourke. Do check out Vinny's catalogue, a thoroughly nice, talented chap...great taste in comedy too!
Why do they phone in the first place?
Why don’t they leave you alone? Leopardskin
tights at her age. How revolting. She sounds a
right crone. That was a lucky escape, | nearly
got sucked into a social whirlpool there...

Tony: ...I can’t understand you — I don’t go around blabbing about what I am.
Doctor: I think we’ve all reached an opinion as to what you are, now kindly keep quiet. Please stand back, she needs air.
Tony: Take her shoes off.

1960. Sid on Tony: We have become inseparable. Not because I like him, but with what he knows about me I dare not let him out of my sight!

Interviewer: Do you really feel so frustrated by life?
Tony: Don't you? I'd say it's the permanent state of everybody.

Evening viewing recommendation? On @criterionchannl, watch Hal Ashby's HAROLD AND MAUDE (1971). ❤️ Equal parts gallows humor and romantic innocence, Ashby's film dissolves the line between darkness and light along with the ones that separate people by class, gender, and age, and it features indelible performances and a remarkable soundtrack by Cat Stevens.
A treat from my archive...

Remembering Kenneth Williams today.
Between part of my collection sits a treasured gift from Kenneth's dear friend, Michael Whittaker - Kenneth as the Khasi from 'Up the Khyber.'

I loved working on this, an absolute treat for me. If you haven't heard it then beg, borrow or buy a copy now! The is still the best cover art in my opinion, my favourite photo of Kenneth.

I had a brief chat with Quentin at the BBC, he was curious as to why I was there to talk about Rising Damp..and whether we were on the same show! Very nice chap, enjoyed his work on Top Gear.
That's the little beauty I'm after...

Dead Poets Society is 36 years old today.
'O Captain! My Captain!'
Robin Williams was extraordinary, as was the rest of the young cast. Peter Weir shot it in chronological order, so the whole process led to this scene. No other film has made me cry as much as this one.

The @RadioTimes week ending 26th May 1961 featuring the lad himself on the front cover showcasing #Hancock.
John Fisher, Hancock’s biographer wrote: “The expectation for the new series was spine-tingling. The series would unquestionably produce some of Hancock’s finest work.”
