As the Brewers were finishing off the once Mighty Dodgers in a four-game sweep in the NLCS on Thursday night, John Smoltz said of the Brewers: “They play a different style of baseball.’’
No, they don’t.
@AMBS_Kernan tells you why.

Paging all scouts.
Ok so let’s talk “copycat league” for a minute.
I see so many people saying that their baseball teams should just “play like the Brewers”.
My question is this.
Where are you getting these players to do that? If they’ve been trained to look at hitting a certain way, how do you all of a sudden “untrain” them?
Multiple scouts have been dismissed in favor of drafting Showcase players. Is a small guy like, say, Sal Frelick even on their radar?
Where are all of these players coming from who all of a sudden “play the game the right way”?
And are MLB teams supposed to tell their players to forget what they already are trained to do?
I get the whole pendulum swinging back and forth thing, but there’s no way in hell that that’s going to show immediate dividends by forcing the pendulum in the other direction.
I get the Brewers are fun to watch. They are. And I’m pulling for them. But let’s not pretend that all of MLB can change how players play with the snap of a finger.
Fine, it was multiple questions. And insert the obligatory TED Talk line, blah blah blah.
Would love to hear some answers beyond the inevitable “You don’t know ball” nonsense.

Let me repeat what I said yesterday, something that irritated some SoCal apologists…

SNAPSHOT: OCTOBER 12, 1926 — Babe Ruth visits young Johnny Sylvester after telling the lad he'd hit a homer for him to lift his spirits after getting kicked in the head by a horse. Ruth went above and beyond, hitting three homers in Game 4 of the '26 series against the Cardinals.
Those three homers set the bar pretty high - and inspired that little shit Bobby demanding that Paul O'Neill complete the same feat on the Seinfeld episode "The Wink".

On the button as usual. Great read. The impression from the outside is the team has no accountability, encourages individual expression, they’re are designed to mash bad pitching for 162 games, win 94 + one round and then lose to the first fundamentally better team every year.
The Boone-Cashman Yankees got what they deserved.
Their lack of true baseball awareness and fine-tuning caused yet the latest postseason embarrassment in what has become a long line of postseason embarrassments.
@AMBS_Kernan on why the Rays Empire is rising — and the Pinstripe Empire is once again rubble.

MLB has proposed returning to a 154-game Regular Season, best-of-seven Division Series, and opponent selection in the Wild Card and Division Series
Starting in 2029, shortening the season to a 154-game schedule would create a standard weekly off day benefiting player health, and it would allow the addition of up to 8 more Postseason games by moving to a best-of-seven Division Series format
Beginning in 2027, higher-seeded clubs in the Wild Card and Division Series would select their opponents

We join the baseball world in mourning the passing of Sam McDowell, one of the brightest stars of the 1960s – a decade marked by some of the best pitchers baseball has ever seen.
His potential led to comparisons with Sandy Koufax while his fastball and high walk totals made for an early version of Nolan Ryan.
@CzerwinskiB9 sat down with McDowell a few years back to look back on his career and more.
