📝 WWDC 2019 - The Things You May Have Missed
This is a collection of almost 100 major and minor features that may have gone unnoticed during this huge week. More features will be added as I discover them, let me know what I missed. Enjoy! 🎉

We're excited to open-source sourcekit-bazel-bsp, a way to hopefully improve development for Apple platforms inside IDEs like VSCode and Cursor. If you're interested, get involved. We can't wait to see where this project goes!

Just published a short blog post with some recent thoughts about the possible effects of AI coding agents on the future of developer infrastructure and codebase growth. I’m curious to hear what others think!

Finally the Apple Watch gets a Notes app. One of my first ever apps got sherlocked after 10 years, I thought it would have been much sooner than today 🤣 apps.apple.com/us/app/notes-…
Ever since I started developing my own iOS apps more than 12 years ago, this has been an incredible monopoly. Very happy to see that over the last decade many more people realized how bad the situation had become, and we needed changes. Glad fairness finally won.
After nearly 10 years, Spotify can now show pricing + direct purchase links in our app for U.S. users. This is a huge win for consumer choice and tech innovation. At Spotify, we’ve always believed an open internet is a much better internet - so we couldn’t be happier to see this process being made. Expect updates in the app very soon.

Every week, we release an updated version of the @Spotify mobile app for iOS and Android — shipping hundreds of changes to 675 million people using all kinds of mobile devices.🚀 Here’s how we do it: hubs.li/Q03hQmrS0
Is it just me, or iOS 18 on iPhone 16 Pro Max is very poorly performant in terms of RAM usage? Many apps get killed shortly after switching to another app due to what I assume is poor memory management in the background, meaning zero state restoration.
I absolutely love @copilotmoney. I started using it 4 months ago and already got so much insights from it. It connects to basically all US bank institutions (credit cards, bank accounts, investments, etc.) to track expenses. I got this “2024 in review” experience today.

We migrated @Spotify's Android app — consisting of five million lines of Kotlin, Java, and C++ code — from Gradle to Bazel. Here’s how we did it: hubs.li/Q02_-k1S0
Just saw a guy meditating in the Oculus at rush hour while Flo Rida was blasting on the mall speakers. Meditation has a whole different meaning in NYC.
I downloaded the MTA app a few weeks ago and was surprised to see such a high rating for a transport app. After using it a couple of times I understand why, it’s truly a beautiful app which uses all the right iOS APIs to make traveling really convenient. A pleasure to use.
21 days and counting…
POV: That feeling when the European Commission’s ruling in the case against Apple gives you the immediate green light to start showing consumers pricing options and link to your website….so you work overnight to submit an update to Apple… and 21 days later, you’re still waiting for Apple’s approval (even after they said it would take 24 hours) 🙃
We just published a new post to @SpotifyEng’s blog describing how we migrated the Spotify iOS app to build with Bazel over the last year and decreased our build times by up to 4x. I hope you’ll find it useful! engineering.atspotify.com/20…
Very excited to attend and speak at #BazelCon later this month in Munich. I'll be sharing some tips and tricks on how we improved our CI efficiency using bazel-diff at @SpotifyEng! See you there 🍻
5 years at @SpotifyEng today. Half a decade already and still having so much fun! Looking forward to what the future holds.
Some of the smartest people I know have been working on externalizing Spotify’s experimentation platform. It’s now available as a private beta to integrate in your apps and services. engineering.atspotify.com/20…
We backported the new Xcode 15 linker to our Xcode 14 builds and already see amazing results. In average it saves 7-10s in all our builds!
I recently got into making some art pieces, even though I’m in no way a very artistic person. I started with plaster art on canvas last week and ended up with AI generated abstract art today that can be printed and framed 😅

Threads looks like the best chance we’ll have to have as much fun as we had over here. threads.net/@balestrapatrick
We're hiring an Engineering Manager in Client Platform at @SpotifyEng. If you're passionate about providing hundreds of mobile engineers with a stable CI experience, please apply. Bonus points if you know your way around and are excited by Bazel! lifeatspotify.com/jobs/engin…
