It’s honestly great Oregon was able to get an experienced play caller mid year, but this speaks to how poorly this staff was constructed. You don’t have a single other person you trust to call plays already on staff?
Jay Johnson will take over play-calling for the rest of the season. He has 30+ years of coaching experience. Former stops: 2011–2015: Louisiana, OC/QB coach 2016: Minnesota, OC/QB coach 2017–2018: Georgia, Offensive QC coach 2019: Colorado, OC/QB coach 2020–2023: Michigan State, OC/QB coach 2024–2025: Wyoming, OC/QB coach

This is probably the biggest issue with the offense right now. He absolutely has to be more involved.
Vikings WR Justin Jefferson is averaging 7.25 targets per game when healthy Among peers: Puka Nacua -- 12.4 CeeDee Lamb -- 11.5 JSN -- 11.2 Ja'Marr Chase - 8.4 (minus inj vs Jax) Vikings have Lions coming up. Will need to score -- and find Jefferson.

Ranking this middle tier was the hardest thing I've had to do with this ranking this season. Very little separation from 3-15 in my eyes.

For teams who have had very disappointing seasons, Michigan and Oregon have rock solid defenses but are anemic on offense. Oregon firing their OC (which should have happened weeks ago) should help a bit, but ultimately both these teams' playoff chances are over.

The Vikings went 3-3 in that stretch in 2025. Wentz threw for 350 and 313 in two of those loses. I know this is a difficult concept to grasp for some people but when you're losing you have to be more aggressive on offense. More yards does not always mean better offense.
Vikings 2025 Offense through 6 games: 318 yards per game 📈 18.3 first downs per game 📈 5.42 yards per play 📈 24.2 ppg 📈 46.3% SR 📈 -0.055 EPA/play 📈 Vikings 2026 Offense through 6 games: 281 yards per game 📉 15.7 first downs per game 📉 4.66 yards per play 📉 20.8 ppg 📉 36.3% SR 📉 -0.104 EPA/Play 📉 This years offense has been worse than last years in every metric.

Again, if the Vikings were winning 35-31 every week and their point differential was cut in half no one would have anything negative to say about them.
The Vikings have the 2nd-best point differential in the league after seven weeks

Starting 6-0 in the NFL is impressive no matter who you play, but these next four games are going to really tell the story. If the Vikings come out of this stretch 8-2 it'll be a success.
The final undefeated team. The Minnesota Vikings.

Waited till it was too late. Move should have been made weeks ago.

Funny because a certain Oregon personality will tell you he’s played great and that you’re wrong if you think he’s making mistakes that lead to explosive TD’s.
Oh look who missed the running back in the alley again. I’m shocked.
66
Mullens needs to tell Lanning Mehringer needs to go. There’s zero reason for him to work one more second at Oregon.
71
I wonder how long it’s going to take Mehringer to realize everyone knows he doesn’t throw when they bring an extra lineman in.
50
Mehringer needs to be walked out of the building in between quarters. He is the worst play caller I’ve seen in my life at any level of football.

8 passes in a row to finish the quarter. And I’m sure he’s absolutely clueless that he’s done that.

It's so funny because anytime someone brings this up it's always an Oregon State fan.
Another reminder the real rival for Oregon is Oregon State. Any Oregon fan claiming Washington is their main rival is either out-of-state, bandwagon or fell for the psyop.
