Igudar are fortified collective granaries built by Amazigh communities in the Atlas + Anti-Atlas mountains of Morocco, functioning centuries ago as a secure communal system for storing valuable goods and acting as an early form of banking. Families stored surplus grain, saffron, olive oil, and almonds, as well as crucial documents like land deeds, marriage contracts, and money. Each family had a locked room inside the fortified granary, managed by an elected guardian (Lamine) who kept strict records and guarded the communal vault.
