happy thanksgiving to those who cooked dinner with whatever was left in the cupboard, set a place for someone who isn't coming home, and somehow managed to get through another year.

Honestly, the Alberta referendum is so dumb because they can't even separate. You are on treaty land. That is not your land to separate from. Like damn, people are dumb. #AlbertaReferendum

Elections Alberta has no way of knowing you didn't vote on 1-9. Your ballot envelope is separated from any personal information before it is opened so as to protect your anonymity as a voter. Once your mail-in ballot was received, you are marked off as having voted. No one checks how many ballots are in that envelope.
If the polling station HAD let you cast additional ballots today, that would create a massive vulnerability allowing people to cast multiple ballots. By not including ballots 1-9 in your envelope, you declined those ballots and forefitted your right to cast them on election day.

If Danielle Smith loses this referendum I expect her resignation by Weds morning.
She will be a failed premier and I also expect her to be put on trial for treason.
This mess is of her own making.
She has to be held accountable for her traitorous activities.

🇨🇦Canada, we can continue having encampments and people sleeping on our streets, or we can do THIS.
In Minneapolis, an old warehouse was transformed into Avivo Village, providing 100 private tiny homes with 24/7 support, mental health care, addiction treatment and housing assistance.
By July 2026, 873 people had been served, and 339 had moved into permanent housing.
This is what happens when we invest in housing and support instead of punishing people for being homeless.
We don't lack solutions, we lack the willingness to implement them.

It is so funny to me that after centuries of invasions and attempts to destroy the cultures, worldviews and identities of peoples around the globe that it’s the white identity that ended up the most fragile.

Now step back and watch the four layers lock together. The courts are slow, so the loyalists act. The loyalists act, so the noise covers for them. The noise is deafening, so the base doesn't connect the economic squeeze to the people causing it. The squeeze keeps people angry and looking the wrong way, which keeps their votes coming. Pull on any one layer and the other three hold it in place. That's why it's so hard to fight piece by piece, and why it has to be named for what it is.
We grew up on a picture of how democracies end. Tanks in the streets, a coup, one dramatic night. Truth is, it almost never goes that way. It goes like this, one stretched law, one fired official, one exhausting news cycle and one broken promise at a time. Each one just small enough to shrug off.
That's the real danger. Not the bang, but the shrug. "It's not that bad yet" is the most dangerous sentence in America because by the time it's that bad, the layers will already be in place. Either we grind this machine to a hault now or we lose our country forever.
Democracies don't die with a bang. They die with a shrug.

People keep calling it chaos. The tweets at 2 a.m., the firings, the lawsuits, the daily outrage that buries yesterday's outrage. It looks like a man flailing. It's not. It's a system, and once you see how the pieces fit, the chaos starts to look a lot like a plan.
It runs on four layers. Legal, institutional, information and economic. None of them would be enough alone, and that's the point. Each one covers for the others.
The legal layer starts in the gray zones. Emergency declarations stretched past their purpose. Executive orders that reach into areas congress never handed over. Money frozen, rules rewritten and agencies redirected, all on the theory that the president can do it until someone stops him. Then comes the dare, "go ahead, take it to court."
Courts are built to be careful, and careful means slow. A lawsuit gets filed, then a hearing, a stay, an appeal and another appeal. Months go by, and the whole time the policy is out there doing its work. By the time a judge finally rules, the facts on the ground have changed and the fight has moved somewhere else. Even a loss teaches the lesson. Push first, ask permission never. Every delay becomes precedent, and every precedent moves the line a little further out.
But pushing the law only works if the people inside the government go along with it. That's the institutional layer. Our system leans on career officials. The prosecutors, inspectors general, civil servants and military officers whose loyalty runs to the law and the constitution. Not to whoever happens to be sitting in the oval office. They are the friction. They're the ones who say "we can't do that" and mean it. We saw this actually quite a bit in the first term.
So the friction gets removed. Watchdogs are fired. Experts are pushed out or reclassified so they can be fired. Their seats are filled with loyalists whose main qualification is that they won't say no. Do it at the Justice Department, the FBI, the IRS and the Pentagon, and the machinery of government stops answering to the public and starts answering to one man. They'll call it draining the swamp. It's capture.
Capture would set off alarms if people were paying attention. That's where the information layer comes in. As Steve Bannon said, "Flood the zone with bullshit." A new scandal every morning, a new lie every hour, another outrage before anyone has processed the last one. The goal isn't to convince you of anything. The goal is to wear you out.
It works. When people can't sort truth from noise, they stop trying. You're hearing it everywhere now. "They all lie... Both sides are the same... Who knows what's true, it's just politics anyway." That cynicism isn't a side effect of the strategy. It is the strategy. A worn out public doesn't march, doesn't call its representatives and doesn't notice when one more line gets crossed.
And when someone does notice, there's always a story ready about who's really to blame. That's the economic layer. Millions of Americans are getting squeezed by rent, groceries, medical bills and wages that don't stretch. Somebody comes along and says, I see you, I'll fight for you. People who feel ignored listen.
Then look at the policies. Tax cuts that pour money on the top. Tariffs that land on working families at the checkout line. Cuts to the programs those same families rely on. The relief is promised to the squeezed, and the results go to the people already on top. When the pain doesn't let up, the blame gets pointed somewhere else. Immigrants.... elites... globalists.... Deepstate.... the other party... Anybody but the people writing the policy.
