Candidate for Mayor of Cheshire and Warrington. Promoted by Ben Fletcher c/o C&W Conservatives, Hoole Rd, Chester, CH2 3NJ

Joined April 2012
I am honoured to be our mayoral candidate. I relish the chance to make the case for a positive ‘can-do’ mayoralty that ensures the good life is available to more people, more easily. More Homes, better transport, increased investment, and thriving towns and villages. I’m ambitious for what we can achieve.

Attractive public spaces and facilities help make a community thrive. They make life more enjoyable and satisfying. I want people, families, and places to be more prosperous. With economic growth we can invest in the shared spaces that help make a place a home.

I want a housing system that delivers homes & public confidence. I’ve got four principles: ✅ Revive our towns first ✅ Bring everything a place needs into one plan ✅ Involve the public up front ✅ Beauty & nature for everyone Read the plan here: ben4mayor.com/housing_manife… Great to discuss it with @SirSimonClarke

I welcome fiscal devolution, and I’ll use it to make it easier for businesses to succeed and employ more people. Great to talk with ITV’s Lise McNally at conference

Some residents have suggested we don’t need more homes I disagree. With an aging population & an urgent need to get young people on the housing ladder, we need to be recognise the lower resident per dwelling ratio. Building dense, attractive housing is the right way forward

Other countries might be defined by blood, territory or language. America has always been creedal, an ideal of liberty turned into a state. Its critics back-handedly recognise as much. The reason that anti-Americanism is a force in world affairs (unlike anti-Algerianism or anti-Armenianism or anti-Albanianism) is that America’s enemies acknowledge that it stands for something. That something is the package represented by personal autonomy, limited government, constitutional rule, regular elections and private enterprise – in a word, freedom. A bias towards freedom has, until now, characterised US foreign policy. A people habituated to liberty immediately saw what was wrong with Nazism and Communism. Which is why current US foreign policy is so shocking to pro-Americans. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is one of those rare occasions when we can clearly identify the aggressor. Vladimir Putin sought to annex a neighbour that offered him no threat – a neighbour that had given up its nuclear weapons in return for a promise that its sovereignty would be respected within its existing borders. Who guaranteed that promise? Britain, the United States and (never forget) Russia. Donald Trump is backing a belligerent dictatorship against a beleaguered democracy. Putin is the one leader he never disparages. He threatens annexation against Denmark, muses about handing away British territory, wages economic war on Canada. But not Russia. Never Russia. Now Trump is buying diesel from Russia, potash from Belarus, minerals from China – all because he doesn’t want to buy them from Canada, which has stood at America’s side in war after war. American friends, can you not see what this is doing, not just to America’s standing, but to the free world which your fathers have built since 1941? Trump is bringing down the international system from which the US has been the chief beneficiary. And for what? To drink liberal tears? God help us.

Excellent day speaking with residents in Bunbury with @AphraBrandreth We heard the concern about inappropriate development. I was able to talk about my housing plan which will revive our towns and nurture our villages. We need to change a system that is working for nobody.

If I’m Mayor, Cheshire will be famous for our urban renewal. We have places packed with potential. To realise it we have to revive our towns. In Ellesmere Port, Crewe, & Warrington I will create a Mayoral Development Corporation to deliver the scale & quality of renewal needed

Kemi Badenoch’s rebuke of the ethno-nationalism of the Reform/Restore right is both hugely powerful and hugely needed. A moving moment to see it get such a big standing ovation from the Conservative faithful.

Let’s Revive our Towns I want our towns to be places that residents can be proud to call home. Thriving communities for every generation. As Mayor I will lead the system to deliver urban regeneration. We can, and will, do better than what we have today.

Today I’m launching my plan to revive our towns, nurture our villages, and create communities. The current system isn’t working for anyone. I want more people to achieve the dream of their own home, and for the public to have much more confidence in the system. Read my plan 👉 ben4mayor.com/housing_manife…

Um, what? The NEET crisis has been caused by raising the costs & regulation of employing 16+. Deal with that & the problem is solved. Disastrously this govt is responding with higher spending to sort a problem it created. Reverse the costs & regs, taxes will rise and costs fall.
EXCL: Ministers are being lobbied by the chief executive of a major British business to solve the NEETs crisis – by imposing a four-day week on top earners. The high-flying boss, who has close links to the Labour party, is convinced that forcing the best-paid employees to work fewer days could be the silver bullet for moving the one million youngsters not in employment, education or training into the jobs market.

Every company needs access to cash I will found a Mayoral Investment Office that connects companies to the capital they need, ensures investors know we exist, and leverages public investment to transform our towns and economy. I’m ambitious for prosperity.

£292. That's the cost of Britain's debt interest for every household, each month. We all pay for it. More taxes. Worse public services. Higher interest rates. We need tough choices. Cut welfare and wasteful spending. It’s the only way to get our public finances back on track.

📣 Mayoral Small Business Office It’s just too hard for small businesses to access the help they need. Busy owners working 7 days a week don’t have the time to navigate complex schemes and government bureaucracy. So, I’ll found a Small Business Office whose goal will be to get every small business the help they need to succeed
