The voice of young speakers at COP28 is a powerful reminder: it is our children and grandchildren’s future at stake.
Together we are shaping a future where every voice - regardless of age - contributes to building a sustainable world.

ANALYSIS: Least responsible for climate change but most affected by it, Africa went to COP28 in Dubai seeking help to cope with the effects of the crisis. Negotiators returned with little to show writes @BabokiKay who was in the UAE mmegi.bw/article/111082

"This COP saw the loss & damage fund established, it finally named the cause of the climate crisis — fossil fuels — & it committed the world to transition away from them, with action required in this decade. That's more than we get from most COPs.”

As #COP28 ends, we cannot forget vulnerable communities. The research we support fills knowledge gaps to reduce inequalities faced by women and youth, which are made worse by climate change. Learn more: bit.ly/3Pj5dld.
Meanwhile Dubai's well oiled and gased luxury and wealth was finely dressed in glitter and splendor, as always. Who would say goodbye? "Whilst we didn’t turn the page on the fossil fuel era in Dubai, this outcome is the beginning of the end," UN's Simon Stiell said.

Chasing the science and text. Beyond the English, my people in Maun where it has been blistering hot for over a month await an outcome that would not perpetuate the heatwave. Thanks to @MeshaScience, @IDRC_ESARO for enabling the first hand experience of climate talks. @MboBW✍️

As we approach the finish line of #COP28, my main message is clear:
We need an ambitious outcome that demonstrates decisive #ClimateAction and a credible plan to keep the 1.5°C warming limit alive and to protect those on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

ALT Here with the rest of the world to bear witness to what the UAE COP has to offer mother Earth and humanity. The Africa Group of Negotiators (AGN) has reiterated that the yardstick for measuring COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber's success is delivery a robust framework on the Global Goal on Adaptation in Dubai. Meanwhile, its still power plays yet adaptation and adaptation finance are key to shaping a "livable" planet, where development and attainment of the SDGs could be plausible.
I learnt a lot form these amazing women. Climate mobility deserves more time and space in the agenda than we think, and accord it. It requires urgency and agency.
