Today is also Boston University's Giving Day! Support our team by donating with the link below (donate to Rocket Propulsion Group). Help us achieve more incredible milestones like our first liquid rocket launch. Thank you all for the support!
On March 29th, BURPG successfully launched and recovered Icarus. Preliminary analysis shows it flew to approximately 13,000 feet. This is the first liquid bipropellant rocket BURPG has launched in its 22 year history. Massive congratulations to the team for a spectacular launch!
Last Saturday, BURPG successfully completed a fully integrated vehicle hotfire of our new bipropellant liquid rocket, Icarus, lasting about five seconds.
We intend to launch Icarus at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry site at the earliest possible opportunity.
Thank you to @Elegoo_Official for providing BURPG with a Saturn 4 Ultra 3D Printer and Mercury X Bundle. This printer will be used for our Hybrid Intro Project which aims to teach all members of the BU community about the basics of rocketry.
As BURPG begins a new year let's recap on last year's accomplishmnets:
1 designed, manufactured, and tested 2,500 lbf bipropellant rocket
4 cold flows of both nitrous oxide and IPA
1 24 ft I-beam established for our testing infrastructure
2 revisions of our flight computer
On Saturday, BURPG made two hotfire attempts.
The first was successful, but shutdown somewhat early due to lower than expected oxidizer density.
After making procedural changes to extend the burn, the team recycled and fired again. This resulted in a minor hard start.

Yesterday afternoon, BURPG conducted a 1 second hotfire test—the first by the team in several years, and the first ever on the Horizontal Test Stand. Initial data review indicates that all performance targets were met, with 2,500 pounds of thrust.

January 2023 Cold Flows: Over the last several weeks, BURPG has conducted a number of additional fuel and ox cold flow tests. The team has reviewed the data, closed out all open items, and intends to step into hot fire attempts in the near future.

BURPG conducted several tests of our Horizontal Test Stand’s oxidizer systems on Saturday, culminating in 2 cold flow tests consuming a combined 100 lbm of propellant. This provides invaluable data as we prepare for acceptance testing of our flight engines burpg.org/
BURPG is partnering with @bu_spark to support their Resiliency Challenge: a nine-week virtual hackathon aimed at helping colleges and communities cope with the COVID-19 crisis. If you want to join a hackathon team, you can learn more and sign up here: theresiliencychallenge.io/
Had a fantastic “hack”-a-thon today where our teams spent a marathon of a day collaborating on our two huge projects. Over thirty people came to make tons of progress! Some serious history in the making. Announcements coming very soon
Manufacturing of Mortise, our 450 lbf Methane Gox rocket engine, has been concluded. Nitrogen flows, cold flows, and hot fire upcoming.

Relativity goes to college -- we were with the @BURPG (Boston University Rocket Propulsion Group) a few weeks ago -- they totally blew us away. It was absolutely impressive to see what these students are doing.
We are very excited to announce that we will be launching our Low Althitude Demonstrator rocket (LAD) this summer in Black Rock Nevada! Over the past two year we have designed, built, and tested all components of LAD. More info coming soon. #PathToSpace
The Boston University Rocket Propulsion Group would like to extend a huge congratulations to the team and alumni of @USCRPL for their incredibly successful launch of their Traveler IV vehicle. We know the difficulty, long nights, and rigor that are associated with rocketry

at this level. This launch was the culmination of years of design, testing, and building, and we are all inspired by knowing what is possible by a group of dedicated university students who know no limits.
