Programmers are the least priestly class imaginable. There's never been a more open and democratic field. Computer programming is gated by cognition, not by membership in a secretive caste.
The degree to which this claim is false is astounding:
- Most programmers are self-taught.
- Encouraging people to explore and learn on their own is the cornerstone of online programmer culture. c.f. "RTFM"
- It's common at companies to ban programmers from business / sales meetings, because they'll blabber about details of how everything works in a way that "scares the hoes" (all non-programmers are hoes).
- *Open source*? Hello?? Programmers invented this
"Programmers, he says, became a priesthood that everyone else had to go through to get anything out of a computer, and AI has ended that monopoly much as the Reformation ended the clergy’s." thoughteconomics.com/david-h…
I really like what the Omarchy team is doing but past few days, there has been too much of DHH on my TL.
His tweets, people responding to it. Hot takes, unpopular opinions, yada yada yada...

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a communist, socialist or capitalist.
It doesn’t matter which ideology you belong to.
What matters is that you win.
I'm trying to understand the ME oil situation as much as I can as a layperson on this matter and, based on what I can deduce, there is a very severe oil crisis ahead of us which is not apparent from the current oil prices, atleast is India.
@matkashbakihai you're more knowledgable on this matter, what do you think?
Govt has said we have decent amounts in reserve but, can we maintain a steady supply via non sanctioned countries.
The situation in Pakistan is quite bad and keeps getting worse every week.

not that it matters but one should actively avoid passing serious judgment on people who clearly exhibit mastery/genius, because whether you realise it or not, you’re constraining them to your own societally conditioned ideas of genius.
The biggest lie in literature is that Franz Kafka was just a gloomy guy writing about bugs in a dark room.
Reiner Stach spent 18 years writing his 3-volume biography, and it turns out Kafka was:
• 6-foot tall & super stylish.
• A total gym rat obsessed with raw food diets
• The guy who couldn’t stop laughing during serious corporate meetings
• A hilarious romantic who wrote absurdly chaotic love letters
We completely misread him

Really big day in my part of programming. The new database language from the creator of @elmlang is out in alpha!
Updates in this community are rare (maybe like 2 or 3 in the last 10 yrs?) which I love about the Elm community, & makes them all the more special. Its christmas!
Acadia is out today! Bringing the benefits of @elmlang to SQLite and PostgreSQL:
- Friendly error messages
- Custom types for precise column data
- Simple module system for easy reuse
Check it out! acadia.engineering/blog/reth…
