New research from BTQ and Qperfect: the first circuit-level implementation of one-shot signatures. A one-shot signature uses a quantum key that signs one message and then can't sign a second one. In the quantum era, trust has to be proven, not assumed. That was the message from “Cryptography in the Quantum Era,” hosted by BTQ Technologies and QPerfect at European Center for Quantum Sciences (CESQ) in Strasbourg. The quantum threat will be silent. No one will announce the first machine able to break today’s encryption, and data harvested now can be decrypted later. The response is verification at every layer: secure silicon, verifiable quantum computing, and quantum-native cryptography. That is the infrastructure BTQ is building. A cryptography method recommended since 2020 is now being reconsidered. Germany’s BSI says Classic McEliece should no longer be used in new developments or new cryptographic applications after significant advances in structural attacks. BSI also says the results so far do not enable a practical attack on its recommended parameter sets. For now, BSI limits its recommendation to hybrid use, meaning Classic McEliece is combined with a classical method so both would need to fail. An update to its guidance is expected in early 2027. The takeaway is cryptographic agility: the ability to change algorithms as research and guidance evolve without rebuilding the systems around them. That same principle informs BTQ’s work on QCIM (Quantum Compute-in-Memory), which is being designed toward supporting algorithm change at the hardware level.
