I’ve not seen this one in a very long time…! I made this plot when I was a postdoc and somehow I found it today on a teaching/meeting room at @uniofleicester. Fun!
For those of you thinking what were “those fires” at the Sun, here the satelite observations of the “fires” 😍, they came from Active Regions at the Sun, where the magic of my work starts 😍
A few shots from yesterday’s amazing eclipse. 📸 Captured with an iPhone 13 (aging gracefully!) and my brother’s trusty Nikon Coolpix P900 bird-watching camera. As good as the photos are, nothing matched seeing it in person.
What a pleasure to chat with Sue Bowler for the @RoyalAstroSoc about my career so far, the people and missions that have inspired me, and the excitement of exploring our Solar System. 🌍➡️🔴

Like many colleagues across our community, I’m dismayed by these cuts. The UK should be building on its scientific strengths, not retreating from them, especially as a new government and new science minister seek to define the country’s future ambitions.
