It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

My feelings. She had no business in that position or passing the interview that got her there - that we were subject to witnessing this is the result of her own efforts and decision to agree to this role
Please stop infantilizing Zacharia. She’s a 41 year old woman who actively vied for a job she was unqualified for, while lying for years about her resume. Treating her like a victim does her — and women — zero favors.

Lol 🤣
AI is already on the job

Ah... A new era has begun
Replying to @Timodc
2.75 Zacharias = 1 Scaramucci 4.45 Scaramuccis = 1 Truss

Wait till you meet her replacement 😜. Nah but I'm glad we put that one to rest immediately lol
A senior White House official tells @pdoocy Katie ZACHARIA is “transitioning out” of the press secretary position.

Reminds me of when Germany invaded Poland and Britain was like, ok that's enough right? You satisfied now? And then several years later Germany owned the continent. Guess they weren't satisfied.

Nice
I want YOU to be able to travel easier! Anyone who's flown through Hollywood Burbank Airport knows it’s one of the best ways to get in and out of LA. Now, with the support of federal funding, which I helped secure, Burbank’s brand new terminal is open -- making an already great airport even better.

Agreed
This is a great answer, imo. Like a really great one. Happy to get push-back on my view.

I think it's important to acknowledge this isn't normal or good
The same people whining about “lawfare” under the Biden administration are really quiet about the president sending his goons to raid Ilhan Omar, a sitting member of Congress.

Lol can't begin to explain how clean this body was 😂
I’ve never even been to Ohio 😂

The way they set Talarico up for multiple dunks lol

Hail Mary intercepted - Paxton was always going to be a heavy lift, now they can just afford to rest and think about the next cycle.
I'm obsessed with this Talarico story because the MAGA media ecosystem has been flirting with an outcome like this for a very very very long time

Zelenskyy: "When our strikes reached Yandex data centers, it suddenly became little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. Many people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, fewer provocations because there were fewer bots. It's pretty clear where those bots were coming from. If they disappeared when Yandex went offline, this proves once again that Europe is not the source of the problems." The big problem is that Russia figured out how modern society consumes information a decade ago, but the West hasn't. There are millions of bots commenting and posting Russian propaganda. There are paid influencers spreading it, with Russian bots supporting their content. There is a gigantic machine operating to radicalize and influence Western societies, and there is not enough defense in place. It doesn't just influence elections, it sows discord, engulfs societies in culture wars, radicalizes teenagers, and shapes political decisions when elected officials fail to read the room. That needs to change. And fast.

And/or you shouldn't run a coalitional party based exclusively on what one or two groups want. The coalitional calculus is - what political capital are we spending on one groups cause at the expense of other coalitions - cause we are not getting everything
The point we have been trying to make is that “the groups” do not represent voters and shouldn’t be automatically considered to be authorities on policy and should be ostracized if they refuse to play ball

He believes that October 7th was horrific for Israelis, and traumatic for New York's Jewish population, which is why he attended a vigil (and got booed by pro-Palestinian protestors), and then ate dinner at a Palestinian restaurant with Palestinians who he believes have suffered for 3 years under relentless Israeli attacks. Seems he's pretty consistent with his views, and says what he means. Which is also probably why so many support him. He's not a typical politician.
Just let him eat dinner where he wants to eat dinner and put your energy into real issues.

Spending political capital to force people to change the way they talk about something that they're opposed to is actually how you super charge opposition
Trump: "The White House considers anyone that uses the term, 'Artificial Intelligence,' as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, 'Super Intelligence,' THE ENEMY! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

I think the left burns a lot of political capital on Palestinian activists, and that Gaza activism fuels a lot of motivated opposition from the right on things like ICE and immigration reform and Great Replacement fears. I think RW antisemitism is why they tolerate it

I'm not saying it should be one or the other, just want to describe the dynamic
