AI is bad but the whole "it was artisanal" angle is a full-faced romanticisation and fails to capture the optimising gears of capitalism that have been active for ever. programming had already become 'coding at the code factory' back in like, the 70s. This is just that but more.

The clearest images NASA has taken of Jupiter's moon ‘Io’ (1999) [via/ NASA]
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The posted images are not authentic 1999 NASA photos of Io. Real Galileo global color views from July 1999 show pastel surfaces at ~1.3 km/pixel; highest-resolution images are small close-ups of limited areas. science.nasa.gov/resource/globa… science.nasa.gov/photojournal/h…

"C with destructors would solve 90% of the memory problems with that language"
They really need to fix the C language. The problem with C++ is that it has all the baggage and the problem with rust is that it needs a full re-write. I feel that if there was just C but with destructors then that would solve 90% of the memory problems with the language.

New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…
