The U.S. State Department circulated a security alert for Americans across the entire Middle East today, urging heightened vigilance and preparations for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions. The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem published a similar notice yesterday.
The department cited attacks by Iran-supported Houthis on Saudi airports and other infrastructure, which it said had caused civilian casualties and disrupted travel. It warned that hostilities could "escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area" and that Iran and groups supporting it could target U.S. interests and locations associated with Americans worldwide.
Similar U.S. alerts have been issued before escalations involving Iran. The renewed warning is another sign alongside the military readiness measures already reported of a potential escalation, although it does not establish that another attack is imminent.
In Sunday's notice, the Jerusalem embassy said routine and emergency consular services in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv remained open. It advised Americans to monitor official updates, check flight information directly with airlines, prepare alternative travel plans and follow instructions from local authorities.

An Austrian Airlines flight that departed Tel Aviv for Vienna this afternoon was diverted to Sofia, Bulgaria, and landed there tonight following a bomb warning/
The alert followed a call to police from a Vienna resident who claimed there was a bomb on board. The airline decided to divert the aircraft to Bulgaria, where local teams were checking the plane after landing.
Passengers stated they had been informed of an anonymous bomb report that prompted the diversion. Ynet reported that there was no confirmation an explosive device had been found. Among those aboard was a delegation of young people scheduled to speak at the United Nations, according to Ynet.

The IDF is considering canceling soldiers' leave during the week of the October 27 election, a military official said. The official said the proposal reflects the need for readiness during a sensitive period and is not a response to a specific or immediate warning.
Channel 12 initially said IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir had decided to suspend leave on election day amid concerns about attacks intended to influence the vote. The military subsequently clarified that no final decision had been made and that the matter would be finalized later this week.
According to Channel 12, the IDF has increased operational activity and adjusted defensive preparations across the Gaza, Lebanon and Syria fronts and along the Jordanian border. The outlet said the military was monitoring information about possible attacks by armed groups seeking to influence the election.
In its official statement, the IDF said it had issued an alert order placing additional ground forces on standby as part of ongoing assessments across all combat fronts. Zamir warned last week that the potential for escalation had increased amid security warnings across several fronts, saying the military had raised its readiness and was preparing for possible attempts to catch it by surprise.

Weekend Recap
Trump on Saudi-Israel cooperation
President Donald Trump said Israel had "been very helpful to Saudi Arabia" as the kingdom faces Houthi attacks. He also suggested normalization could be back on the table "maybe more than ever." His comments did not establish what assistance Israel had provided specifically against the Houthis.
European diplomats attacked
Police opened an investigation into an alleged attack involving European diplomats and Palestinian olive harvesters near Taybeh on Saturday. French, Belgian and Polish representatives were reportedly present, and a Belgian diplomatic vehicle was damaged. The IDF condemned the incident and said the delegation's visit had not been coordinated with it.
Gaza strikes
The IDF announced overnight that two Hamas operatives who participated in the October 7 attacks had been killed in separate Gaza strikes. Separately, Gaza hospital officials reported four people killed in Israeli strikes, including a 14-year-old. The military said it targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives in some of those locations.
Lebanon interceptions
The IDF launched interceptors near its troops in southern Lebanon on Friday evening, later saying the launches followed a false identification. No civilian warning sirens were activated.
Clash near Kedumim
Two people were lightly injured during a clash between Israelis and Palestinians near Kedumim on Saturday. The IDF said an injured Israeli civilian was taken for treatment and that troops were searching the area as the incident was investigated.
Iran and Gulf shipping
Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed Saturday that two oil tankers struck naval mines and caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters said there was no independent confirmation. Separately, CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said financial pressure was forcing Iranian-backed groups to send money back to the IRGC, sometimes withholding their own fighters' pay.

President Donald Trump said overnight that the United States may carry out further strikes against Iran, specifically identifying the underground nuclear facility known as Pickaxe Mountain as a potential target.
In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said, "We may have to go there," adding that American forces could destroy the facility quickly. He ruled out using nuclear weapons against Iran and said he does not envision deploying American ground troops.
His remarks follow CNN reporting that the Pentagon has developed new strike options, including the possible use of the GBU-43/B, known as the "Mother of All Bombs," against Iranian nuclear and energy infrastructure. Trump did not confirm whether the weapon would be used. CNN noted that the bomb is designed primarily for surface targets and may not be effective against deeply buried nuclear facilities.
Meanwhile, Channel 12 reported that Israeli security officials believe any renewed military campaign against Iran should be comprehensive, targeting missile facilities, nuclear sites, energy installations, and other infrastructure.
Western intelligence agencies have detected unusual military activity inside Iran, raising concerns that Tehran could take further escalatory action. However, Israeli and American officials told Channel 12 that the latest intelligence does not currently require an immediate military response. No confirmed Iranian decision to launch a preemptive attack has been established.

What was initially suspected to be a possible car-ramming attack near the West Bank settlement of Ateret is now believed to have been a hit-and-run incident, according to Israeli security officials.
The revised assessment follows an incident in which an Israeli civilian was lightly injured after being struck by a vehicle. The driver fled, prompting the IDF and police to launch a search operation and establish roadblocks in the surrounding area.

Israeli security officials are increasingly concerned that Iran may be preparing a preemptive attack, after Western intelligence detected what is being described as "extreme military movements" inside Iran.
The concerns come as Israeli security officials assess that Iran has rebuilt its ballistic missile launcher stockpile to roughly the level it held before Operation Roaring Lion began in February.
The assessment suggests Iran has managed to replenish much of its launcher inventory despite extensive Israeli and American strikes during the February-April conflict. It remains unclear how many launchers are currently operational or whether Iran has repaired damaged systems or manufactured replacements.
Amid the heightened tensions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke tonight with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The State Department provided no details about the discussion, issuing an unusually brief, one-sentence readout:
"Secretary Rubio spoke today with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu."
However, a security official with knowledge of the conversation stated military action remains a realistic possibility:
"If Tehran does not come to its senses, action is a realistic scenario."

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush has returned to the Arabian Sea following a five-day port visit to Phuket, Thailand, restoring a two-carrier American presence in the region.
The nuclear-powered carrier departed Thailand on October 9 after its first port visit since leaving Norfolk, Virginia, on March 31. It had spent more than five months operating in the Middle East, supporting U.S. military operations against Iran and the American naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The USS George H.W. Bush is now operating alongside the USS George Washington, which arrived in August to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln following its extended deployment.
The Bush carries Carrier Air Wing 7, including F/A-18 Super Hornet strike aircraft, EA-18G electronic warfare aircraft, and airborne early-warning aircraft. Together with its accompanying guided-missile destroyers, the carrier strike group provides additional offensive and defensive capabilities for American operations in the region.
The return comes amid continuing tensions with Iran and an ongoing American military buildup. The Pentagon has also dispatched the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group toward the Middle East, potentially bringing the number of American aircraft carriers operating in the region to three later this month.

Iran has instructed Hezbollah to increase its military readiness in preparation for a potential confrontation involving Israel and the United States, according to Lebanese security sources speaking to BNN.
The sources indicate that Hezbollah has recalled its full-time personnel and issued new operational instructions amid growing concerns in Tehran over a possible escalation in the coming weeks.
Hezbollah is also reportedly implementing a more decentralized command structure, allowing individual units to continue operating independently if Israeli strikes disrupt communications with senior leadership.
