The “gold standards” in air accidents investigations, the US NTSB, Canada TSB, French BEA, UK AAIB are independent of the aviation regulator FAA, TCCA, DGAC, CAA respectively. The American TSBs report directly to their Legislatures, while the Europeans are under their respective departments of transportation. The agencies always have at the minimum a certified ATPL pilot, a mechanical engineer, and an electronics engineer, and a human factors specialist, led by a person with legal investigative expertise. All full time. No deputation or seconding. Independence is needed since an investigation normally investigates regulations also. The Indian AAIB team has 2 of its 5 members from the DGCA. Any agency investigating itself naturally breeds suspicion. The lack of certified specialists and experts in the five critical areas adds to the mistrust. It will behoove the powers in charge to make the needed corrections and immediately induct the needed team members to ensure industry and public confidence into the #AI171 investigation.
Happy Ayudha Pooja and Dussera.
This mark’s the start of the festival season culminating in Diwali.
Similar to tie holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Great interaction with NS Sheena of @SBICard_Connect. Polite. Helpful. Positive. Ms Pande please note.
Curiously though earlier by manufacturing serial numbers and 67880 & 67881 by delivery date, @AkasaAir 737M8-200 VT-YBV is alphabetically, registered later than VT-YBU which should be delivered soon.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J aircraft undertook a short-notice casualty evacuation late at night, airlifting a critically ill 30-year-old civilian patient from Leh to Palam for further medical care. The mission was carried out in darkness and challenging weather conditions, requiring a high degree of operational preparedness, professional coordination and timely execution. The patient was subsequently transferred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for further treatment.
The mission reflects the IAF’s operational readiness and its ability to respond promptly to critical humanitarian requirements, including medical evacuation under challenging conditions.

There are certain decisions that will go down as history-defining moments. This is one of them. It's a terrible misjudgment of Putin, who has made it clear he wants to destroy the West. We shouldn't help him do it.

In 2023, VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai was involved in runway excursion (veer off) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport. There were 6 passengers and 2 crew members on board.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has identified the flight crew’s decision to continue an unstabilised approach under marginal weather conditions and improper aircraft handling, leading to an aerodynamic stall at low altitude, as the probable cause of the September 14, 2023, Learjet 45XR crash in Mumbai.
Contributory factors included failure to monitor airspeed, delayed go-around call, poor visibility, strong tailwind and undue commitment to landing before Mumbai airport’s restricted operational hours.
AAIB recommends DGCA review pilot training, enforce go-around procedures after VSR Learjet crash in Mumbai
The AAIB has recommended a review of recurrent pilot training requirements, including stall recovery in landing configuration, and a one-time audit of training records of fixed-wing pilots, particularly those working with non-scheduled and general aviation operators.
It has also recommended stricter enforcement of go-around procedures during unstabilised approaches, enhanced crew resource management training, stronger internal audits and verification of operator manuals.
The report further recommends improved checklist compliance by VSR Ventures, proper maintenance of aircraft logbooks and adherence to wake turbulence separation norms by AAI air traffic controllers.

Reminds me of the 1997 incident involving Saudia landing its 747 at Air Force Station Tambaram instead of Chennai. Similar short runway takeoff 4 days later. Special pilot, fully stripped plane, weight reduced, 9 minute flight to MAA. Cost 1.16 million Saudi Riyal about $310K.
Watch: Boeing 767 Takes Off From an EXTREMELY Short Runway!
An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767-300ER (ET-AQW) was flying from Addis Ababa to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania. ATC redirected the crew because of an obstruction on the runway.
The pilots then mistakenly landed at Arusha Airport, a much smaller field.
Arusha’s runway is only about 1,620 m (5,314 ft), less than half the length of Kilimanjaro’s, and normally built for light aircraft, not a widebody jet. Ground crews had to offload excess fuel and unnecessary weight to lighten the aircraft. The flight crew then pulled off a specialized short-field takeoff and flew out safely. The incident happened on December 18th 2013.
Here’s the departure. Watch how much runway they use. 👇
There is a reason why @Apple doesn’t charge beyond 80% when connected on continuous AC power. iPhone Mac, AirPod et al.
You pay a premium on brands like @Anker_Charging @UGREENOfficial @belkin @SamsungIndia etc. for similar “optimised re-charging” firmware built inside.
This was what greeted me after an overnight charge two days ago.
The power bank is more than 2 years old and maybe there was some other damage elsewhere, high temperatures etc etc which I don't know about so not blaming manufacturer.
However this is the reason we must seriously consider banning power banks on aircraft.
For one, the nature of their technology in context of price point makes them unstable if not inherently then over time, as is evident here.
More importantly, smart phones (for which we mostly use power banks) have ever higher battery life and only getting better.
Moreover, most aircraft today provide USB charging points as do cars and many other vehicles and at airports.
So better to carry a charging cable than a power bank.
