Gabriel Fauré Cantique de Jean Racine
Lili Boulanger Les Sirènes
Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis
Gabriel Fauré Requiem
Join us for a programme of exquisite French and English music, culminating in one of the most beloved choral masterpieces ever written, Faure's Requiem.
The concert opens with Gabriel Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine - a vision of peace and devotion that remains deeply moving. The shimmering world of Lili Boulanger's Les Sirènes. evokes the mythical song of the sirens.
Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis provides a striking contrast with one of the most profound and atmospheric landscapes in all English music.
Finally, Fauré's Requiem offers tenderness, comfort and eternal rest. From the radiant simplicity of the Pie Jesu to the transcendent beauty of In Paradisum, the Requiem speaks with a humanity and serenity that have made it one of the world's most cherished choral works
Spanning the sacred and the secular, the earthly and the transcendent, this programme invites you on a journey of reflection & imagination.

The concert was conceived, directed and conducted by BFC’s brilliant Music Director James Morgan. We are enormously grateful to him.

“it’s to this huge choir’s credit – as it is to Morgan’s – that the delicate vulnerability in Elgar’s vision was almost as impressive as its bombast’

32 years ago, Elgar’s Cello Concerto was the first piece ever performed at The Anvil, Basingstoke - with Julian Lloyd Webber as soloist.
This Sunday, it returns with Adrian Bradbury alongside the @royalphilorch , alongside Elgar’s deeply personal The Music Makers.

Happy BFC History Sunday! A little look back at one of many fond moments of the chorus, shared by Bass 1, Richard Pulham:
In October 1988 BFC took The Music Makers and Belshazzar’s Feast on tour to The Netherlands with the Brabant Orchestra. It was back in the heady days when BFC did many tours throughout Europe and beyond and 4 performances took place in s’Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda.
Conductor, Norman Del Mar was an ebullient travelling companion and the Chorus invited him to join them for a meal on a free evening following an afternoon concert. On hearing that he had a passion for ice cream, members of the Chorus ordered the largest one from the menu which arrived with sparklers. Here’s a photo of that memorable evening.
We like to think our performance of The Music Makers at The Anvil next Sunday, 4pm, will be just as sparkling.
