He was killing himself trying to accommodate a woman who was already unhappy. Then he drops the line that hit hardest: “Once a woman becomes unhappy, there is nothing you can do as a man to make her happy. She’s just got to live in it.” And if you’re still in that house right now... it’s only a matter of time before you become the reason she’s unhappy. Then you’re gone. To be honest. Then one day he goes silent, and everyone acts shocked 😳. Unhappy can be fixed. Ungrateful is a choice. Stopping the thank-yous, the respect, the effort you still demand back… that slowly starves a man who was once willing to fight for it. Men don’t usually explode and leave. At some point, understanding their behavior turns into underwriting it. Consequences don’t require some dramatic revenge plot. Just stop giving unlimited access to people who keep misusing it. “I love you” and “you cannot treat me this way” can live in the same sentence. They’ll call you mean. They’ll say you’ve changed. Of course they will and they used to hand you the bullshit and walk away while you cleaned it up. Now you’re handing it back. Compassion does not cancel accountability. You can understand why someone acts like that without volunteering to absorb it. You’re allowed to be a safe place for someone’s vulnerability.
