Unfortunately 00z Euro took a major 360 to continued ridging, above normal temps and well below precip in the #PNW. 00z CMC however continues showing a chilly system next weekend. Not sold on any solution atm with this volatile pattern.

What we've been lacking in rain, we've been making up with sunsets this October!
Another beautiful sunset this evening across some parts of Metro Vancouver! 🌅

Euro showing quite the chilly upper level low aiming at the #PNW next weekend. Local Mountains and Eastern Washington could see first #Snowfall of the season.

So interesting to track radiosondes (weather balloons) launched from Quillayute Airport on WA State's Olympic Peninsula. Using simple gear (a Nooelec SDR and TV Yagi antenna) I capture and decode telemetry from the balloons during the roughly two hours they are aloft. This afternoon's balloon reached a maximum speed of 137 km/h at an altitude of 10,800 m. These balloons are designed to burst at around 34,000 m.

While many struggle with what they find the seemingly endless dreary days of autumn on the BC Coast, days like today in little hamlets like Egmont make every rainy day worth it!

The winds are kicking up late this morning in Kelowna, blowing the leaves off the trees 🍂.
This is likely just the start...

Interior: Maximum (non-storm related) wind gusts of up to 30-70 km/h have been ongoing for some areas tonight due to the Interior system & incoming shortwave w/ strong winds aloft, & will remain the case into the early morning. They will gradually spread (& intensify) through the Interior in relation to the strong winds aloft & the SFC system/front (as + after it passes through) during the AM, however, w/ maximum (non-storm related) wind gusts of up to 30-70 km/h expected to impact at least the large majority of the Interior mid-late morning through to late aft or early eve as a result.
This AM-aft, higher gusts up to 80-100 km/h will also be possible in higher elevations. 80-90 km/h gusts could mix down into the lower elevations of a few Interior regions as well, the Nicola & Similkameen as a couple of the most probable candidates, where a primarily wind-related special weather statement is in place.
Beautiful & sunny, but the winds are going in Kelowna BC!
Gusts have been consistently between 30-60 km/h for the last hour or so as the front has been pushing through the Southern Interior.

Southern BC - 10/17/26 Weather Update
At the SFC, two, separate, weak lows & fronts are impacting Southern BC tonight. One low is stationed in the North-Central Interior, w/ a stationary-cold front curving SW down the Interior, into the South Coast + VI, & off the coast.
A 2nd, weakening system is stationed around Haida Gwaii, w/ a cold-occluded front stretching along the Central + VI coast.

Today's "blue marble" full disk shot from GOES-18 as taken at 2030 UTC / 1:30 PM PCT, along with a zoom/crop to highlight BC and the west coast, along with an atmospheric river event shaping up offshore. Note too in the cropped shot the ship "contrails" off the WA coast. These are often seen in high pressure zones and they can be long-lasting.
Received and processed with my own ground station here in Metro Vancouver.

Videos of yesterday's windstorm in Kelowna, BC that brought wind gusts ranging from 30-40 km/h to upwards of ~70 km/h.
Unfortunately, just as my luck has gone through the year, I was at work, so I missed the peak gusts 😔.
