A typical day in Breach Candy: Cars parked right beside fruit & vegetable vendors, shoppers occupying the entire footpath & their cars taking over an entire lane.
Where is pedestrian space and ease of vehicular movement? #PedestriansFirst
@AshwiniBhide @mybmc @mybmcWardD
Thank you @richapinto for highlighting Mumbai’s pavement crisis & #BreachCandy’s call for a BMC Report Card. Clearing encroachments is a start.We need accountability & pavements that stay clear & walkable. Breach Candy waits to be #PedestriansFirst. @ashwinibhide @walkingproject
The @breachcandyALM representing more than 750 families from the locality, has submitted to the @mybmc a “BMC Footpath Report Card” in a bid to put on record whether action being taken under the ‘Pedestrian First Drive’ is a permanent solution ground or not.
The report card seeks to document the exact stretch affected, identify the problem, specify the action, department assigned, action etc. The form lists common pedestrian problems such as hawkers and kiosks blocking footpaths, parking, broken or uneven pavements, permanent structures, inadequate clear walking space, open drains, garbage and construction material, streetlights and other obstructions. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/…
Liveability is the right of every neighbourhood not a privilege. It means safe, walkable streets; quick emergency access; well-managed traffic; green space to tackle heat, flooding & air pollution; & peace, quiet & darkness at night. Climate resilience is essential. @AshwiniBhide
A community meeting was held at Cymroza Art Gallery in Breach Candy today, where local residents discussed concerns over the proposed coastal garden attractions and their potential impact on the neighbourhood. Residents voiced fears of increased traffic, pedestrian movement and parking pressure, and reiterated their demand for an exit on Napean Sea Road from the southbound Coastal Road. @breachcandyALM

The Ganpati pandal near the Indian Oil petrol pump has taken over the entire footpath, while cars queue for CNG. Pedestrians forced onto road:serious safety hazard. Barely half a lane remains for traffic heading to the Coastal Road. @mybmcWardD
@mybmc @MTPHereToHelp Please help – at Mumbai, India
Senior citizens of #BhulabhaiDesaiRd ask BMC to restore pavements. Despite repeated complaints, encroachments continue, forcing seniors & children onto the road. Some are near schools & hospitals where SC restrictions on hawking apply.Please act. @mybmcWardD @AshwiniBhide @mybmc
When will this happen in other wards madam @AshwiniBhide ? We keep following up with @mybmcWardD. Requesting your help please @AJAYPATIL8873 every inch of pavement is covered with commercial activity incl live cooking. Where to walk? Shameful state of affairs

Pedestrians first must mean pedestrians first. On #BhulabhaiDesaiRd, footpaths are only 1–1.5m wide. Kiosks, Hawkers, live cooking, shoppers standing, two wheelers parked on pavements leave no space to walk. Please enforce the policy consistently.

Mumbai’s #Pedestrian first program: In a significant modification @mybmc has tightened the implementation of its Universal Footpath Policy 2023- by dropping provisions that allowed limited exceptions for parking and temporary structures on footpaths. The modification is a part of the six page guidelines that have been issued for implementation of the newly launched - 'Pedestrians First (Improving Walkability) program issued by the municipal commisioner on Aug 5, 2026.

@mybmc @AshwiniBhide can we please have safe, accessible, and obstruction-free footpaths on #bhulabhaidesairoad? We have been asking for 6 years.

Residents are eagerly looking fw to rebuilding the community gardens lost to coastal road construction, a vital green sanctuary for children and the elderly. @AshwiniBhide @CMOMaharashtra @mieknathshinde @AJAYPATIL8873 @MPLodha @mybmcWardD @breachcandyALM

Nutcracker at Breach Candy is openly double parking at a key chokepoint and gets valet access despite clear no-parking signs on this arterial road to the Coastal Road. Why the special treatment?
@MTPHereToHelp @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice
Breach Candy side of Bhulabhai Desai Rd at Bomanji Petit Rd: footpaths are nearly taken over by live-cooking stalls, creating serious safety risks and violating norms. After 4 years of complaints to D Ward, we need strict, permanent action now.
For the sake of the residents please take the necessary action! @mybmcWardD @mybmc @breachcandyALM @AshwiniBhide @AJAYPATIL8873
Melody Rd closure had restored much-needed peace to our area.Reopening brought back severe noise pollution, affecting, echoing in 500+ homes.Urgent intervention is needed, esp. for sr.citizens and kids. @mybmc @MPLodha @CMOMaharashtra @breachcandyALM @richapintoi @AJAYPATIL8873
Please share and respost - let's focus on a climate friendly green cover on this important public space- this is what our city needs.
@breachcandyALM @Mumbaikhabar9
Mumbai doesn’t need fancy gardens on it's largest reclaimed land.
Mumbai Coastal Road needs a dense native forest.
Because the reality is stark:
Mumbai is still breathing beyond safe air limits.

Thank you @mybmc for recognising the disturbance caused by the #melodyroad to #coastalroad promenade users and nearby residents. Rumblers are only partially barricaded - please complete the barricading. @CMOMaharashtra @mieknathshinde @MPLodha @breachcandyALM
89.01 dB inside the car.
That’s what we recorded on Mumbai’s melody road a harsh sound that irritates drivers and disturbs the surrounding neighbourhood.
Kudos to the residents of Breach Candy for taking action.
Big thanks to #BMC for barricading it.
Barricading it is a start. Removing it permanently should be the end.
This is today! 🫣
What was meant to ease movement is now choking the corridor below. Breach Candy and nearby areas cannot keep absorbing this pressure as if it is normal.

Dear @mayor_mumbai, Citizens have a solution to Mumbai's AQI ; 100+ acres along the Coastal Road could become Mumbai Coastal Forest; dense native trees instead of ornamental gardens; aligned with MCAP; cool the city and filter pollution. @mybmc @CMOMaharashtra @deepikapadukone
Thanks, @RonnieScrewvala As BC Resident’s Forum,we've mailed our complaint multiple times to the @mybmc and Gov, with immense media coverage as well. Yet, no response from either on removal of the “so called melody road” @MPLodha @CMOMaharashtra @breachcandyALM @milinddeora
Thats super @milinddeora - totally agree
Now all we need to do is STOP - the”Jai Ho” playback on the coastal road that is driving everyone living at breach candy - NUTS - as its 24/7 with every passing car 🤷♂️
@myBMC 'Jai Ho' still echoing 24/7 in Breach Candy homes. Not just decibels, measure pitch & frequency too. Kindly move the melody road to a non residential zone. @MPLodha @ajaypatil8873 @richapintoi @indrameer @WIONews @Independent
