Reconciliation asks more of us than reflection. It asks us to keep listening, learning and taking meaningful action — today and throughout the year. We honour Survivors, their families and communities, and remember the children who never came home. Every Child Matters.

Every woman in policing has her own story. On National Police Women’s Day, we celebrate the difference she makes and the young woman who sees her and thinks, “I could do that.” Your impact reaches further than you may ever know. #WomenInPolicing #BCACP

Our deepest condolences to the member’s family, loved ones, and the entire Surrey Police Service. Our thoughts are with all those who knew him, served alongside him, and are grieving this loss.
Today we are remembering a Surrey Police Service member who died suddenly on August 23, 2026, while off duty. His loss is being felt deeply across SPS and his previous agency. Over 33 years in policing, he dedicated himself to communities in the Lower Mainland. He will be remembered not only for his service, but for the way he treated people — with generosity, steadiness, and care. He was the kind of colleague and leader who looked out for his team and put others first. This is an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him. At SPS, our focus is on supporting his loved ones, our members, and one another as we grieve. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or seek support from available wellness and mental health resources. Out of respect for his family and his memory, no further details will be shared.

Repeat offending affects every community, and addressing it requires more than enforcement alone. The expansion of the Chronic Property Offending Intervention Initiative (C-POII) reinforces the importance of coordinated, multi-sector responses that address both immediate public safety concerns and the underlying factors contributing to repeat offending. The BC Association of Chiefs of Police joins policing partners across Canada in mourning the tragic collision involving two Constables in Training with the Durham Regional Police Service. Every loss is deeply felt across the policing profession. Our thoughts are with those mourning today, and with the entire Durham policing family as they navigate the days ahead.
Today, the Durham Regional Police Service is mourning a profound loss following a tragic motor vehicle collision near the Ontario Police College involving two Constables in Training (CIT) who were travelling to training. It is with deep sadness that I share that one CIT has lost their life, while the other remains in life-threatening condition. During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need. We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, and we will not be providing any further details at this time. - Chief Peter Moreira

For several years, police leaders and law enforcement partners across BC and Canada have called for reforms to address repeat violent offending and to better equip the justice system to respond to the realities faced by victims and communities. The passage of #BillC14 marks an important step in that direction. #PoliceReform #PublicSafety Read BCACP's full statement: bcacp.ca/blog/bcacp-statemen…
