Genuinely asking: what is the difference between benign and non-malignant? I was under the impression they shared meaning but this wording leads me to believe there are multiple definitions

Benign (non-cancerous) brain tumors are typically meningiomas. The environmental hazard is COVID infection. Workers on those floors would use elevators more often than those on other floors. Meningiomas grow faster in people who use their brains more, due to neuroinflammation.

Maybe they have something else in common? Some outside activity they all share? Some place they all frequent? But the hospital environment would be the most obvious.
