On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a statewide order prohibiting the sale, advertisement, marketing and free distribution of HFSS (high in fat, salt, and sugar) food products within not only schoolpremises but also a 50-metre radius around the educational establishment.
The prohibited items include ultra-processed foods, soft drinks, chips, fried snacks, and other junk food that are easily available in school surroundings. If violations are found within a school, the principal, school management, and the committee will be held responsible.
Canteens, mid-day meal centres, hostel kitchens, and any food suppliers within schools cannot operate without a valid FSSAI licence or registration.

Following the political outcry over the BMC inquiry report into the death of 11 year old Vihaan Srivastava in a tree crash incident in Chembur which absolved its garden and roads department officials of any wrongdoing, the civic body has decided to go ahead and set up a third party party inquiry into the incident.
A single expert member not attached to the BMC in any way has been proposed to re inquire into the incident. BMC officials said that there wasn’t any delay in setting up the re inquiry and that they were instead looking for a senior level expert in the field following the demand made by the ruling party corporators.
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Thursday at the BMC general body meeting rejected the civic body’s inquiry report into the Chembur tree crash that killed 11-year-old Vihaan Srivastav, saying the findings failed to fix accountability and directing the civic administration to conduct a fresh inquiry.
The report came under severe attack in the house of corporators, with many across party lines questioning why officials and contractors had largely escaped responsibility despite the child’s death.

BMC orders NSCI to halt commercial events for 30 days over alleged lease violations:
Mumbai civic body has directed the National Sports Club of India (NSCI), Worli, to suspend all commercial events for next 30 days, citing alleged violations of the terms of its land lease and the club’s failure to furnish information sought by the Maharashtra legislature’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

In a letter sent to NSCI on July 29, Wednesday, the civic body said only government and BMC programmes, along with sports-related activities, would be permitted on the leased land during the 30-day period. All other commercial events have been ordered to stop with immediate effect, while authorities have also been directed not to grant fresh permissions for such events and cancel permissions already issued.

FDA Takes Major Action, Suspends Licences of Five Prominent Clubs Including CCI
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Mumbai, has launched a major enforcement drive against food safety violations, resulting in the immediate suspension of licences of five prominent clubs.
Cricket Club of India (CCI): Action was taken after inspectors found expired food items, unhygienic conditions, and cockroach infestation.
RK Juhu Gymkhana and The Aparna Juhu Gymkhana: Food licences have been suspended for violations of food safety regulations.
MIG Cricket Club, Bandra East: Authorities found that catering operations were being conducted without a valid FSSAI licence.
The Willingdon Sports Club: Action was initiated for violations of food safety norms.
Goregaon Sports Club: Issued a Stop Business Notice for operating without the required licence.
During inspections of seven establishments, the FDA Suspended five food licences, Ordered one establishment to cease business operations and Issued one improvement notice for compliance.
The enforcement drive was carried out under the directions of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who reaffirmed that strict action against violators of food safety regulations will continue.

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the FSSAI licences of five prominent Mumbai clubs after inspections found violations of food safety and hygiene norms. The action was part of a statewide enforcement drive carried out between July 24 and July 27.
The five establishments whose licences were suspended are The Cricket Club of India, RK Juhu Gymkhana, The Aparna Juhu Gymkhana, MIG Cricket Club and The Willingdon Sports Club.

In a move to enhance safety around open manholes during maintenance and repair work, the BMC will pilot a ‘Manhole Rail Guard’ in L ward before deciding on a citywide rollout. Around 10 days ago a 55 year old fell and died in an open manhole at a Khairani road in Saki Naka.
The square-shaped protective barricade was inspected on Monday by Mayor Ritu Tawde and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar at the BMC headquarters. Developed by a private organisation, the prototype is designed to improve the safety of both pedestrians and civic workers during manhole maintenance operations.

मुंबईसह राज्यातील गृहनिर्माण संस्थांना स्वयंपुनर्विकासाच्या माध्यमातून बिल्डरशिवाय अधिक प्रशस्त घरे, पारदर्शक प्रक्रिया आणि आर्थिकदृष्ट्या सक्षम पर्याय उपलब्ध होत आहे. त्यामुळे या योजनेला अधिक बळ देणे ही काळाची गरज आहे.
सभागृहात मी ठामपणे मांडले की, स्वयंपुनर्विकासासाठी राज्य शासनाने अधिक सक्षम आर्थिक व्यवस्था निर्माण करावी, मोठ्या प्रमाणावर निधी उपलब्ध करून द्यावा आणि शासनाने स्वीकारलेल्या ‘दरेकर समिती’ अहवालातील शिफारशींची तातडीने प्रभावी अंमलबजावणी करावी.
मा. मुख्यमंत्र्यांनी स्वयंपुनर्विकासाला प्रोत्साहन देण्याची सकारात्मक भूमिका घेतली असून, आता त्या भूमिकेची प्रभावी अंमलबजावणी होणे तितकेच आवश्यक आहे.
मुंबईतील मध्यमवर्गीय आणि मराठी माणसाला स्वतःच्या परिसरात सन्मानाने, सुरक्षितपणे आणि अधिक चांगल्या सुविधांसह राहता यावे, यासाठी स्वयंपुनर्विकासाला अधिक बळकटी देणे हीच काळाची गरज आहे. यासाठी शासनाने तातडीने आवश्यक निर्णय घ्यावेत, अशी ठाम मागणी मी सभागृहात केली.

महाराष्ट्र विधान परिषदेत सार्वजनिक बांधकाम विभागाच्या मागण्यांवरील चर्चेदरम्यान मी पोलादपूर तालुक्यासाठी अत्यंत महत्त्वाचा विषय सभागृहात मांडला.
कामथे–हिरडोशी–पुणे या प्रस्तावित मार्गाची उर्वरित जोडणी तातडीने पूर्ण करण्याची मागणी मी सरकारकडे केली. या मार्गाच्या दोन्ही बाजूंनी रस्त्याची कामे पूर्ण झाली असून, केवळ दोन डोंगरांदरम्यान सुमारे १२ ते १५ किमीची जोडणी झाल्यास कोकण आणि पुणे यांच्यातील प्रवास अधिक सुलभ, सुरक्षित आणि जलद होणार आहे.
या विषयासंदर्भात मी सातत्याने पत्रव्यवहार व पाठपुरावा केला आहे. तसेच कांगोरी गड सर्वांगीण विकास मंडळाचे अध्यक्ष श्री. सुभाष पवार आणि स्थानिक आमदार श्री. भरतशेठ गोगावले यांनीही या प्रकल्पासाठी पाठपुरावा केला आहे.
या महत्त्वाच्या रस्त्याच्या कामास शासनाने तातडीने मंजुरी देऊन कार्यवाही करावी, अशी मागणी मी ठामपणे सभागृहात केली.

रत्नागिरी क्रीडा संकुलाचे काम पूर्णत्वास नेण्यासाठी सुमारे १५ कोटी रुपयांच्या निधीची आवश्यकता असून, हा निधी तातडीने उपलब्ध करून देणे गरजेचे आहे.

Four pedestrian bridges over railway tracks in south and central Mumbai, will undergo structural audits by IIT Bombay, with the BMC set to seek approval from the civic standing committee to pay the IIT-Bombay institute in advance for the exercise.
