So an AFL player allegedly said a homophobic word in a game and now will miss the entire finals series. The @AFL are very staunch on getting this out of the game. Ok cool. So why are they more than happy to have @qatarairways as a MAJOR sponsor of the @sydneyswans ? Do they not know what happens to gay people in that country? @tommorris32 said something as “bad” so comfortably you could deduce it was common conversation, yet ended up with a promotion to cover the game… What sanction did the @AFL and @FOXFOOTY hand down to the @aflwomens player who said on the broadcast “when I heard she could jump that high I thought she was Black” with Kelli Underwood laughing at the blatantly racist remark??? Why is we can pick and choose what cause to get behind and enforce? This year @PAFC player Willie Rioli was found to have made physical harm threats to opposition players through personal social media accounts. With other players stating this wasn’t the first time, yet the AFL did nothing? Surely physical harm is far worse than a mean word? For @GerardWhateley to say “I haven’t heard that word for 20 years, I didn’t know people still said it” is the most detached view on society I’ve ever heard. Surely the ease in which Tom Morris used the language shows it’s still fairly common. However most people are better than ever about using such words in a malicious way. As in Rankin saying that to Quaynor when he is not gay, shows it’s not “homophobic” as in trying to harm gay people through language, just as in the @SouthPark episode where they state “you don’t have to be gay to be a fag” yet @GerardWhateley hasn’t heard that for 20 years, he must not watch a cartoon that has 1000x more reach than his programs in the world??? So what we can deduce from Izak missing the entire finals series as Adelaide’s best player is the @AFL - are happy for sponsors to jail you for being gay, - are happy for @aflwomens players to be openly racist with zero sanction, - are happy with you to send personal messages to opposition players threatening aggressive violence against them, - but DO NOT call a straight man, gay.
