Every AI lab wants to build a machine that learns like a child: curious, question-driven, feedback-hungry, always adapting.
Every child is still mostly taught like a machine: batch inputs, fixed pace, standard outputs.
The learning science was never the mystery. Curiosity, immediate feedback, individual pacing — tutoring has delivered that for centuries, and Bloom quantified it in 1984.
The question of the decade in education isn't whether AI belongs in it. It's whether we'll finally use technology to teach children the way we're trying to teach machines — individually.
#Homeschool parents — what’s the question that stopped the lesson cold?
We’re running “The Question I Couldn’t Answer.” Share a kid question that left you stumped (no names, no photos of kids).

What separates AI that repairs learning gaps from AI that hides them:
→ It diagnoses before it teaches
→ It targets the misconception, not the wrong answer
→ It generates the smallest lesson that fixes it
→ It checks mastery before moving on
→ An adult stays in the loop
And the student never uses it to get answers.
Parents with time and technical skill are assembling this by hand today. That's the demand signal.
New OECD PISA data — 760,000 students, 91 countries:
Students who use AI to DO schoolwork (drafting, summarizing, research) score ~20 points lower in science. That's a year of schooling.
The one exception: students who use AI "to help me learn." Weekly users scored highest of ANY group — including kids who never touch AI.
Same technology. Opposite outcomes.
The difference is what the AI is built to do.
New Gallup survey: Americans rate schools BEST at helping students adapt to new technology.
And WORST at teaching them to think critically — 47% say schools do a poor job. Last of all six areas measured.
More tools, less thinking.
AI will accelerate both. The only question is which one it's built for.

Students differ. Instruction mostly doesn't.
A lesson that moves at one speed never finds out who's still on step two — and then we call the result an ability gap.
Meet the student where they are, check every step, re-teach until it holds. Differences shrink when instruction adapts.

Is Google AI Reliable?
I spent this week asking accountants one question: "Does your firm pay for your CPA exam prep?"
The answers, from real conversations:
"No they don't."
"I have to do it, so I am covering it for myself."
"My previous firm reimbursed — but required partial payback if you left within a certain window."
That last one gets me. A benefit that converts into debt when you resign isn't a benefit. It's a retention clause with extra steps.
Here's the part almost no one in these conversations knew: the IRS lets employers pay up to $5,250 per employee per year for education — tax-free to the employee, deductible to the business. Section 127. It's been there for decades. It requires a written plan most small firms have never bothered to set up.
So the current state of the industry is: candidates paying $2,000–$3,000 out of pocket on graduate salaries, while their employers sit on a tax-advantaged way to cover it that costs less than one departure.
If you run a firm and you've never heard of a §127 plan, ask your own tax people about it today. You will enjoy the irony.
