Every step in the march toward total surveillance is helped along by those who say, "They already have everything... " & "Your phone is already monitoring you." Meaning: It's bad already -- might as well get worse. "It's raining hard now. Who cares if there's a hurricane?"

MASSIVE 6-3 SCOTUS WIN for privacy. Geofence warrants are DEAD. Police can no longer throw a digital dragnet around a crime scene and vacuum up EVERY phone location in the area. The 4th Amendment applies - your movements aren’t open season just because you carried a phone. reclaimthenet.org/supreme-co…

This is a dangerous anti-privacy bill (identity verification) that the House of Representatives might try to pass by voice vote this afternoon before many of us are even in town. Senators Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Ron Wyden voted against a similar bill in the Senate two years ago.
The internet could change if the U.S. House passes the KIDS Act today to "protect children." Critics warn it could mean de facto age checks for everyone and weakened encrypted communications. The KIDS Act is a package of around a dozen bills that pairs a revised Kids Online Safety Act with new age-verification, AI chatbot, and messaging rules. Digital rights group EFF warns the design would pressure platforms to age-check all users, not just minors, since liability can attach when a service "should have known" a user's age, and flags new rules touching encrypted and disappearing messages. Sponsors Brett Guthrie (R) and Frank Pallone (D) say it's kids-safety protection and note KOSA's text says age verification isn't required.

France enrolled all 68 million residents into a digital identity wallet with zero opt-out, and called it convenience. The country that gave the world the word "liberté" now binds your movement to a scannable, revocable credential administered jointly from Paris and Brussels. FranceConnect+ already links to eIDAS 2.0 for cross-border tracking. The EU Digital Identity Wallet becomes mandatory in 2026, and the mobile driver's license makes the credential the prerequisite for existing in public. The Paris 2024 Olympics normalized facial recognition under the 2023 AI Surveillance Law. Algorithmic video analysis is now legal, the DGSE runs bulk signals intelligence, and 30,000-plus biometric-capable CCTV cameras sit active nationwide. V-Dem dropped France's Liberal Democracy score to 0.62 in 2024. Anti-protest laws expanded, police-filming restrictions passed, and courts approved surveillance without legislative debate. Freedom House still files France as "Free" while flagging the authoritarian trend. The Banque de France runs an active digital euro pilot under ECB coordination. MiCA already mandates full KYC on stablecoins. The programmable-money plumbing is installed and waiting for the switch. President Macron, WEF Young Global Leader, attended Davos in 2018, 2020, 2023, and 2024, accompanied by a cabinet stocked with fellow alumni. None of it cleared a voter referendum. Ranked 38 of 197. The score is the least interesting number here.

The KIDS Act is being sold as online safety, but it risks expanding data collection, limiting online speech, and replacing parental judgment with federal mandates. Protecting kids matters. More government control over the internet isn’t the answer.
For too long, children and teens have been left exposed to online threats and harms. Now, with @HouseCommerce’s bipartisan KIDS Act, we are taking a major step to empower parents, require safety features be turned on by default, and hold Big Tech accountable. We need the KIDS Act signed into law now, to enable modern protections for the modern world.

Anthropic has updated Claude's privacy policy to disclose that users may be asked to verify their age or identity using government ID documents and biometric verification technology provided by Persona. The move comes as regulators increasingly turn their attention to AI chatbots and online age assurance requirements, but has also sparked pushback from some Claude users concerned about privacy and data collection. #AgeVerification #DigitalIdentity #Biometrics biometricupdate.com/202606/u…

The government isn't meant to search your things without a warrant. So they buy your data instead, and pretend that searching their own databases doesn't count. The 3rd-Party Doctrine needs to end. surveillanceaccountability.c…
