Bovaer: The Feed Additive Farmers and Consumers Are Rejecting—And Why It Should Concern Everyone
The trial of Bovaer, a feed additive designed to reduce methane emissions in dairy cattle by up to 30%, is rolling out across the UK, backed by retail giants like Aldi, Tesco, and Arla. Marketed as a breakthrough for net-zero targets, the reality of Bovaer raises serious questions—about cost, safety, and who truly benefits.
Developed by a Dutch-Swiss multinational, Bovaer is mixed into cattle feed to inhibit enzymes in the rumen, cutting methane production during digestion. While trials suggest short-term efficacy, the long-term consequences—for farmers, cows, and consumers—remain alarmingly unclear.
The Cost Burden
Industry estimates place the annual cost of Bovaer at £50–70 per cow. For a farm with 150 dairy cattle, that’s an extra £7,500–10,000 per year—a permanent expense for a fixed 30% reduction. Farmers won’t see higher milk prices to offset this. Consumers, however, will face rising costs at the supermarket. The only guaranteed winners? The corporations selling the additive and the retailers passing the buck.
The Safety Gaps
Bovaer’s raw form requires hazmat suits and full PPE for handlers—yet there’s no long-term data on its safety for farmers exposed to dust, nor on its effects when consumed through milk or dairy. The Soil Association hasn’t approved it for organic production. With no evidence of long-term health impacts, the rush to scale Bovaer feels reckless, echoing past disasters where “safe” industrial solutions later proved catastrophic.
The Consumer Rebellion
When corporations announced plans to adopt Bovaer, the public response was swift and unequivocal: rejection. Consumers don’t want untested additives in their food. They don’t want to be guinea pigs in a corporate experiment. And they’re making their voices heard—through boycotts, petitions, and a growing demand for transparency.
The Bigger Picture
Cows are part of a natural carbon cycle, not the equivalent of fossil fuel emissions. Yet Bovaer is being framed as an essential tool for climate goals—a narrative that ignores the real motive: profit. Farmers and consumers are left footing the bill for a “solution” that benefits only the companies selling it.
The path forward is clear. Reject Bovaer. Support local farmers who refuse to use it. Demand food free from unproven additives. And keep speaking out—because when it comes to the food on our tables, the only acceptable standard is safety, not corporate convenience.

Liberation Scotland Committee Statement
The Liberation Scotland Committee is a volunteer-run organisation working to present Scotland's case to the United Nations. Our members work without pay or the resources of a political party.
On Wednesday, we issued a statement intended to promote cross-movement cooperation and challenge the SNP to deliver genuine collaboration. We acknowledged immediately that our tone was wrong and appeared to endorse specific organisations. We apologised and removed the post.
Despite this, we've faced accusations of infiltration, ego-driven leadership and mass resignations we know nothing about. We've encountered damaging speculation about our UN work, including unfounded claims of backsliding and unrealistic comparisons with New Caledonia - whose representatives are our allies. New Caledonia already has the recognition as a Non-Self-Governing Territory which we seek.
Some have demanded we publish sensitive diplomatic progress on our website. For obvious reasons, however, we cannot publicly name supporting countries or detail ongoing negotiations.
Others claim our progress since March this year is too slow. This is the United Nations and it is new ground. The process is complex and can be protracted; it can also accelerate rapidly. And our campaign for listing as a NSGT is the first in the history of the independence movement, the first on Scotland’s behalf since the UN was established 80 years ago.
We ask members to ignore unfounded accusations from those pursuing personal agendas rather than Scotland's decolonisation. We continue our exhausting but vital work and will update members as confidentiality permits.
The final point is this. The job of getting us recognition as a NSGT will mean nothing unless the independence movement can, first, unite to deliver the vote for freedom and, second, get behind real popular sovereignty and the other rights guaranteed by Scotland’s Claim of Right.
Please assist us to get this across by reposting. Thank you.

I’ve been talking about how unfair it is to have males in sports categories for females for 10 years now. Against ALL the peer reviewed science. We cannot remove all male physical advantage. Yet here we still are. The worst offenders big male dominated sports like football, cricket, golf. I’ve come to understand boards & often players, simply don’t want non stereotype males in their competitions or changing rooms. Yet Women very often have transmen, as at the Olympics last summer (females ) in their races with no issue (Unless on an illegal drug like testosterone). So NGB & Int. bodies have decided it’s a female problem. It’s not. Own your own sex competitors. Compete by sex. Call yourself what ever you like. Wear what ever you like. But STOP allowing prizes & places to be stolen from little girls & women by males, in their own category of sport. #playfair
