A KMT victory is likely very bad for China as it's not like the CCP would just go away. KMT China, in the aftermath of WW2 destruction and with its army made of comically incompetent & corrupt warlords, would face CCP guerilla warfare for ~decades. A gigantic South Vietnam. We also have a pretty good idea of what would happen in such a state of prolonged warlord anarchy and total collapse of state capacity due to unending civil war: flooding disasters and famines. So while a Great Leap Backwards style mass deaths of 50 million probably won't happen, it's probably just gonna be a constant state of popular warfare, famine, and natural disasters for decades that, when added up, might still total tens of millions of deaths. Possibly the end result would be literally worse than India, because at least the Indians didn't have to deal with open popular warfare and counterinsurgency against a significant percentage of its own population during the first decades of its rule. Imagine all the dysfunctions and corruption of India, but carried by a brutal, corrupt military narcostate.
