Society needs to break the fucking spell. Women are not naturally innocent, nurturing, peaceful, honest, or morally better than men. They are human beings. That means they are capable of lying, cheating, manipulating, abusing, exploiting, assaulting, and killing just like men are. Yet society has spent decades putting men and masculinity under a microscope while leaving a halo over women. A man gets angry? Dangerous. A woman gets angry? What did he do to her? A man controls his partner? Abuser. A woman does it? She has been hurt before. A man hits a woman? Monster. A woman hits a man? He's bigger. He should have walked away. A father abandons his kids? Deadbeat. A mother keeps a good father from his kids? She's protecting her children. A man cheats? Piece of shit. A woman cheats? What needs wasn't he meeting? Male teacher sleeps with an underage student? Predator. Female teacher does it? Watch how many people call the boy "lucky." Father fails his children? Men need to do better. Mother fails hers? Motherhood is hard. Give her grace. Man commits a horrible crime? Monster. Woman does it? Suddenly everyone needs 17 paragraphs about trauma, hormones, medication, relationships, and mental health before they can talk about accountability. Context matters. But why does society seem to need so much more of it before holding a woman responsible? Look at the conversations around Lindsay Clancy. Mental illness and criminal responsibility are fair things to discuss. But three children are dead. When the dead children become side characters in a conversation that is mostly about sympathy for the person who killed them, something has gone seriously wrong. Then there is Amber Heard and Johnny Depp. In one recorded exchange, Heard challenged Depp about whether people would believe that he, a man, was the victim. Why would being a man matter? Because everyone knows the stereotype. Woman equals victim. Man equals aggressor. That is the fucking problem. Men are constantly told that accountability is part of being a man. Good. Keep that standard. Now apply it to women too. Sometimes nobody made her do it. Sometimes she wasn't pushed into it. Sometimes there isn't a man standing somewhere in the background who needs to take the blame. Sometimes an adult woman simply lied. Manipulated. Cheated. Abused. Assaulted. Failed her children. Committed a crime. Sometimes she is the fucking villain. That should not be controversial. Equality means being able to say a woman is wrong without immediately searching for someone or something else to blame. Women do not need adult rights with child-sized accountability. If women are equal adults, then treat them like equal adults. Keep every standard we demand men meet. Just remove the gender exemption. Women are not naturally evil. Women are not naturally good. Neither are men. Take the halo off women. Take the horns off men. Judge the fucking behavior... EQUALLY
