The key to a great budget is NOT what software/spreadsheet/program you use. It's how you communicate about money (either with yourself or with others). Let's work through a good budget meeting.

You're grinding 60-hour weeks to max out a retirement account you've never defined a purpose for. Ask yourself: if you had unlimited money, would you still be working 60 hours? Almost nobody says yes. So what are you actually solving for? Most people have no idea. They're optimizing the spreadsheet without knowing what the spreadsheet is for.

Why does Reddit’s bot admin in the PF sub recommend Robinhood as their #1 brokerage choice? Gross.

I found credit card reward points confusing until I found out 3 things: 1) The 1st game is "avoid interest." Cha-ching! to the tune of avoiding 28% interest. 2) 2% cash back is the standard "you're winning" benchmark. Judge point redemptions against this #. 3) Card perks only matter if you were going to use them anyway. Trial subs & dining credits where you'd never eat? Huge waste of $$$.

Kids coming home at 3 in the afternoon by themselves helps nobody. An obvious answer - why not just start school later (and I'm glad that @SenTomCotton is jumping in and helping solve the BIG problems, and not little ones like diesel fuel or Iran).
We should have permanent standard time AND send kids to school later. Do people realize you can also enjoy sunshine BEFORE work and school?

My first thought was, "Surely he's not talking about me," when I read "smart, attractive bald men."
Even smart, attractive bald men make mistakes. Ex-Lehman trader @dailydirtnap on what Scott Galloway's 2016 sell-off proves: "He sold all his stocks after the election in 2016. He thought Trump was going to crash the stock market, and then he had to buy them 40% higher." "Just shut up and hold it... Don't trade around it like you're not smarter than the market." youtu.be/qbDztc21lRQ

I was already financially independent when I started meal planning...but WOW did it make a difference. Our food budget is down a full 30% and our food waste has cratered. Eating what's in the fridge pays off with a thicker wallet.

People who spend their time over optimizing how every dollar is saved have far less than people who optimize their income streams.

I dislike the name "Obamacare" because it immediately politicized the nation's attempt to get spending under control. Nice try, but a swing and a miss, partly because the name divided people as if we were at a football game. I loathe "Trump Account" for the same reason. Congrats to the 60M children automatically enrolled today. (Remember, just because your child has an account does NOT mean you'll receive the $1,000...that's a separate action, parents).

1000x they will not (and this isn't the first time @AffordAnything and I have disagreed). If the perception is that you don't need a budgeting aggregator to facilitate the conversation so you have a CLUE what to ask AI...then yes. Two different functions (and one of them sucks at their job).
Ohhhh these personal finance / budgeting apps are going to struggle to compete …

It's always a party on the @ChuckJaffe Money Life show. I'm honored to be BACK with Chuck, who's helped so many people manage money better. Listen wherever you get your podcasts.
Replying to @AverageJoeMoney
@averagejoemoney in #TheBigInterview on the ideas (and impact of #AI) changing perceptions of what's right/wrong in personal finance,  Carlo Versano of @Newsweek on the #AmericanDreamIndex and if the Dream remains viable today, plus author Renee Bryan on #TheMoralityofMoney.

Glad our president is doing the important work of changing the word AI to SI. That's what we need capable leaders to do...lead!

Why is it when I hear a politician say, “it’s a conspiracy” I nearly always believe whatever they’re trying to discredit. Likewise when they promise me something, I’m fairly certain it won’t happen.

What's an old book you read recently and found some new "a-ha's"? I'm revisiting the business book The Goal all of these years later and getting brand new "a-ha" takeaways. I don't often like to walk down old paths, but this has been a really good one.

Our new YouTube interview with @drjoemoore was released today. You'll hear him explain why, in the 1800s, you were a FOOL if you saved money.

Is customer service deteriorating everywhere, or is it just @Marriott? I have been trying to change a reservation; the website won't let me, and now I'm in "chat room hell," waiting "18 minutes to connect." (It took 31 minutes to talk to someone.)
