I've only ever got one good answer after asking that question for 25 years. A wonderful designer at the Sicilian company who makes Alcantara said the only thing that ever made sense. She said when society is happy and feels secure they express the inner peace with bright colors. And when things are unsure they play it very safe. Example, the colorful Austin Power style of dress of the 60's/70's vs. today's masses of people wearing black, white, gray. Spy before you buy.

And as someone who has defended hybrids for a LONG time it's infuriating to see many of the same folks who used to talk shit about hybrids latch onto them as a cudgel to use against EVs. Hybrids are the best form of ICE, but EVs are better. Americans are addicted to fossil fuels
