had a revelation yesterday night, starting today and it's gonna be something visual for once ;)
I want to get back to C and possibly C++ programming. Last time I wrote C++ was in 2014 (C++11) btw. C was last year, C99 all the way, baby Any suggestion on nice little projects to speed up finding gigs afterwards? Looking to work into "systems", game engines, networking, etc

Programming professionally has been a painful experience lately, pushed to vibe code for maximum output; regardless of quality, makes the PM and CEO feel like they're getting the best bang for their bucks. No place for craftsmen anymore except in hobby :(
Recently attended an in-person handheld game console hackathon. I wrote a raycaster by hand. Someone wearing a “I ❤️ slop” tshirt saw mine and said “oh I wrote a ray caster too!”. They showed me. It was a ray *tracer* and claude did all the work. The person didn’t know basic graphics terms. They couldn’t answer basic questions about how it worked, could only talk about their prompting harness. Sad how AI is ruining the craft and community for people that actually like to program and have spent their lives getting good at it.

Hot take: for an indie SaaS you don’t need a reverse proxy for TLS. Go’s stdlib + autocert gives you auto-issued, auto-renewed certs in ~10 lines. One binary, one systemd unit, nothing else to patch.

Saw an interview of a bench fitter which is a mostly extinct craft: they make precision parts by hand using files, saws and such. They got replaced by machines but still exist to fix them, since it's cheaper to make one special cog by hand than with a machine. Made me think.

Not the most minimalistic About page, design-wise, but at least I can say it's truly mine: the fonts, the colour palette, the aesthetics, all the good and the flaws that came along with it.
