Putin knows he cannot win or even achieve his invasion’s basic aims. Now he is losing ground.
Trump appears determined to tip the balance back in Putin’s favour.
Vladimir Putin appears to have concluded that he cannot win the war in Ukraine on the battlefield. His strategy now is to grind Ukraine down. How scandalous that Donald Trump has become his best weapon economist.com/leaders/2026/1…

The Republican argument against Talarico amounts to “Fag!” “Trans!” But funny how Talarico is eager to debate his opponent, while his opponent — Mr. Macho — quails. Manly is as manly does. Pussies.

Trump says we’re building “more factories and plants right now than at any time in our history.”
Factory construction hit a historic record under Biden and has fallen 31% since Trump took office.

Still can't believe that Trump and Republicans enacted a law that made the poor poorer while making the rich richer.
Taken as a whole, the Big Beautiful Bill was the biggest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in all of US history.

Another day, another hot inflation report.
Business inflation surged in September to 6.3% (!). The expectation was 5.4%.
Every category of business inflation was hot, even after stripping away energy costs.
It's inevitable that companies will pass some of these costs along to consumers. It's yet another reason this fight against inflation is likely to be longer than anyone wants.
Business (wholesale) inflation: 6.3%
Consumer Inflation: 3.7%

When we started responding to Russia’s operation against our data centers, and when our strikes reached Yandex’s data centers, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations.
Because there were fewer bots. And it’s pretty clear where those bots were coming from – if they disappeared when Yandex went offline. This proves, again and again, that Europe is not the source of the problems. Europe is not the one making everything more difficult.
Most importantly, we need people in America, every morning, when the day in Europe is already moving toward evening, to really see what is happening. To see the truth.

Q: President Trump said that you and Ken Paxton should debate... What are your thoughts on that?
@JamesTalarico: I agree with President Trump. I think Ken Paxton should debate. The president is saying he should debate. Fox News has said he should debate. The people of Texas have said he should debate.
And I think it's mysterious that Ken Paxton hasn't responded to a request for a debate in 85 days. I hear that people are getting really concerned about the Attorney General. I’ve heard rumors that he has a rare medical condition that causes clinical levels of cowardice.
I know Ken Paxton has asked for proof of life from me. I'm asking for proof of spine from him.

There is, writes @davidfrum, an "implicit quid pro quo in these lucrative deals offered to Trump’s family and friends: If you compel Ukraine to surrender, we will enrich you beyond reckoning"

Midterm nightmare for the GOP is a Senate cycle like 2006 & 2014 for the Prez's party...
Trump's net approval in the 2026 key Senate states (-21 pts) matches Bush 2006/Obama 2014 in those years key Senate states.
Indies are Trump's problem (down 57 pts from his 2024 baseline).

Let’s be clear: The President is advocating for an attack on 10+ million U.S. residents in two of America’s largest cities.
This is not normal. None of this is.
And we will continue to remind folks of that every day.

This is psychosis.
The president of the United States is psychotic.
Is the media going to start talking about this, or continue to normalize it?

An all around weak -- but not tragic -- payrolls report for September.
+29k jobs created, about 60k below expectations. Revisions made both July and August look weaker, too. Over the past 3 months, we've an average of a mere +17k per month.

All these promises are fiscally infeasible anyway.

JUST IN: A medicore September jobs report. The US economy added only 29,000 jobs in September (well below ~80k expected). On top of that, there were downward revisions: July was revised down to -10k and August to 133k.
Unemployment rate: 4.2% (up from 4.1% in August)
The biggest sore spot = wage growth of 3% in past year. That’s a new 5-year low and it’s wiped out entirely by ~3.4% inflation.

This transcript is a laboratory for psychopathologies and cognitive decline. Trump has reduced everything to a persecution story.
Anything entering his perception that contradicts his alternate reality is just evidence of a conspiracy against him. This pattern is repeated dozens of times. It’s not Trump being Trump; it is actual psychosis.
Paranoia is a key ingredient of malignant narcissism and it increases in people with dementia. Trump has lost any ability to take in information, process it normally, and respond. His brain’s salience network no longer functions. He can no longer tell what matters—even to himself.
He cannot form chains of thought and rational judgements because he no longer lives in the objective world. Every probe from reality is just a personal attack on his dominance. Every critic is a traitor.
He has collapsed into his own ego and he has nowhere left to run. All he has left is to destroy the world—so it can’t bother him anymore.
“Psychosis is a state of absolute narcissism, one in which the person has broken all connection with reality outside.”
— Erich Fromm, The Heart of Man, 1964
