Why is a school district getting into housing?
Same with SAISD here in San Antonio, Texas.
Best I can see is, federal dollars for "affordable housing."
Austin ISD sued more than 100 of its own neighbors.
The district wants to put a 435-unit apartment complex on the old Rosedale Elementary site. Neighbors say the land has deed limits going back to the 1930s that keep it for single family homes if the school closes. So AISD took more than 100 of them to court to throw those limits out.
The lawsuit isn’t over. The Austin City Council rezoned the land anyway, 10-1.
A school district suing the families who raised kids in its schools is upside down. Taxpayers deserve school districts that work with their neighbors, not against them.

I'm one of the locals in Wilco who started posting on Nextdoor about Andrew Wimsatt's murder/attempted beheading the day it happened. Plenty of people on Nextdoor in our local network had some connection to Andrew Wimsatt or his family. And if y'all can believe this, Nextdoor has bent over backwards to hide and censor my posts — and everybody else's — who've tried to connect and rally together around what happened to Andrew.
I'm also seeing people on X trying to organize, and people on Nextdoor who literally live right here but are cut off from those conversations because Nextdoor won't let us speak freely about something that could've happened to any one of us in Williamson County. There seems to be no uniform way of linking up with the folks organizing on X. (Elon Musk should buy Nextdoor out, by the way.)
So here's my question: how do we get everyone on the same page? There are people on X looking for his friends and family, and people on Nextdoor who knew him and probably don't even know the X community is trying to connect. How do we combine forces and get around this massive censorship campaign?
I'm sending this out into the X ether hoping it reaches the right people. We need a way to bring these two communities together on one platform so we can organize around justice for Andrew, awareness, supporting the friends and family, and holding our elected officials accountable. Open to any suggestions. 🙏🏻

Andrew was a rare person: Genuinely kind just for the sake of it; it quite clearly never occurred to him to expect anything in return. I am haunted and horrified thinking of his final moments, and beyond furious that this was the end the world gave him, the same world that he’d always gone out of his way to make a better place.
We all love you Andrew, and we always will. Your kindness made you a legend.
