Three phrases are quietly killing your recruiting emails. You think they make you sound impressive. They usually do the opposite. First: "I'm a baller." That tells a coach you think you're good. "24 touchdowns and 2,800 yards as a junior" shows him you are. Second: "Hard worker." Every athlete in his inbox says that. "I dropped my 40 time from a 4.9 to a 4.6. Here's the video." That proves it. Third: "I hope you can watch my film." Hope sounds uncertain. Like you don't even believe your film is worth watching. Try this instead: "Here's my film. I know it'll be worth your time." Notice the pattern. Weak phrases describe you. Strong phrases show evidence. Coaches don't recruit adjectives. They recruit proof. Stop telling coaches who you are. Start showing them.
