In Dubai, Paxton and his girlfriend watched fireworks at a party with two fugitives who had failed to return to the U.S. to face federal healthcare fraud charges. One of them, Anosh Ahmed, had donated $190,000 to Paxton. wsj.com/politics/policy/ken-… w/ @MarkMaremont @jdawsey1

House divided! I’m blessed to have two young men in college playing college football. On Oct. 17 in Houston I’ll have the opportunity to see my son’s share the same field but on different teams. Of course I’m going for both teams. One blessed mother. 2️⃣,2️⃣2️⃣

Kelly Clarkson Strikes Back She says the Brooklyn store is now lying to save face as that they most certainly did not say the bird thing on the wall was not for sale: nitter.cf/kellyclarkson/status/2…
Kelly Clarkson triggered an explosive attack against a small store in Brooklyn after she presumed that they clocked her as poor, à la Pretty Woman, and then she lambasted them on X. This over what the store says was her errant desire to purchase an item that wasn’t for sale:

My concern is Ewers showed no development in his time at Texas. Arch is also showing absolutely zero signs of development. What happened to the QB guru/offensive genius? He fired PK as a cop out for his lacking offense. Now the offense sucks worse while having more weapons….

My wife and I are trying to have a kid. We’ve had a couple miscarriages, one of which was particularly rough, which sucked. But I will say that it cracks me up how romance goes completely out the window. She’ll be like “Sex. Sex now. Sex me now now is the time that sex matters”

Your dog spends about 20% of the night awake and its sleep quality doesn't drop at all. In the bed-sharing arrangement, you were always the fragile one. Dogs are polyphasic sleepers. Their sleep comes in short bouts stacked across the whole day, and their brains are built to surface, check the room, and sink back under in seconds. Humans run on 90 minute cycles where a single bad 3am wake-up can cost an hour. Same mattress, two completely different operating systems. A Mayo Clinic study put activity trackers on 40 owner-dog pairs for a week. The dogs hit 85% sleep efficiency whether they slept on the bed or the floor. The humans managed 81%, and their number moved depending on where the dog was. Dog sleep was bulletproof. Human sleep bent around the dog. Then wearables blew up the sample sizes. A 2026 analysis of 11,733 WHOOP users across 1.6 million nights found that on dog-in-the-room nights, people slept about 10 minutes longer, resting heart rate dropped about 1 beat per minute, and heart rate variability rose. There were a few extra micro-wakeups, around 0.4 per night. The nervous system downshifted anyway. It read the dog as safety. A 2025 study ran sleep EEG on family dogs and found the inversion. Dogs sleep measurably worse when their owners aren't in the room. You are your dog's sleep aid, and apparently its main sleep disruption too. The evolutionary read is that this deal is tens of thousands of years old. Humans who slept near dogs could afford deeper, more vulnerable sleep because something with better hearing was handling the night watch. Co-sleeping researchers think dogs literally expanded how much uninterrupted sleep early humans could get. The dog takes the broken sleep so you don't have to. The trade predates agriculture, and your heart rate still drops a beat the moment one curls up at your feet.
A surprising new study finds that people who sleep near their dogs don’t experience disrupted sleep. If anything, the University of Toronto researchers discovered, we humans are the ones disturbing our dogs’ sleep. nbcnews.com/health/health-ne…

my dark horse candidate for one of the greatest movies of all time is "catch me if you can", where a brilliant con man portrayed by one of the most attractive actors of all time in his prime does a bunch of cool stuff, only for it to be revealed 20 years later that his greatest con was convincing us any of that shit actually happened.

AT&T’s defense against Starlink was simple: satellites can’t penetrate walls. They were right on the physics. At 2 GHz (15 cm wavelength), concrete and low-E glass cause 25–30 dB of dielectric attenuation, a 99.9% power drop that kills any orbital signal indoors. SpaceX’s acquisition of 800 MHz spectrum stretches the wavelength to 37.5 cm. Attenuation drops to 8–12 dB, and diffraction around structural frames scales with wavelength. I think the game didn’t just change. It ended.
We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US. With this new spectrum and our Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have access to high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are → spacex.com/updates#starlink-…

That's nice. Wake me up when it can commercially sustain a NET POSITIVE fusion reaction. Meanwhile, United States National Ignition Facility utilizing totally different laser technology was the *only* fusion project in the world to achieve NET POSITIVE ignition.
While the U.S. is busy renaming "AI" to "SI," China is quietly engineering the future of energy. China has just completed the construction of the world's largest superconducting magnet for thermonuclear devices. Weighing 582 tons and measuring 21 meters in length, the magnet is capable of storing approximately 120 gigajoules of energy. It will be used to confine plasma at temperatures exceeding 100 million degrees Celsius—a key technology for future thermonuclear reactors. They call it “the artificial sun.” Maybe that’s the real enlightenment. ☀️
