Congratulations to Tesla, the company is again the largest BEV manufacturer in 2024. Congratulations to BYD, the company is again the largest BEV manufacturer in the fourth quarter. Both companies are pioneers and a role model for all other car manufacturers who are struggling and falling behind. At the current rate of momentum, BYD will overtake Tesla in BEV sales in 2025, but make no mistake: Tesla is NOT focused on selling as many BEVs as possible or remain the largest, but on making Robotaxis a reality this year and changing the paradigm of transport for good. If automakers like BYD want to stay competitive, they will have to license FSD from Tesla or alternatively shrink, struggle, or even disappear. Tesla engineers on the thickness of the Cybertruck's steel exterior: "We have two thicknesses. Our doors are 1.8 millimeters thick and all the other parts like the sails, hood, etc, are 1.4 millimeters thick. We worked hard to get the strength up on the stainless because the original we were about 2.53mm. We actually increased the strength of the HFS over time. Here’s what @DivesTech said about Tesla’s $TSLA Delivery Report: “This morning TSLA announced its Q4 delivery numbers of 495.6k vehicles below both the Street’s 504.8k estimate and Street whisper numbers of ~500k representing the first annual decline in delivery volumes in the company’s history. Overall we would characterize this is a respectable delivery number although the Street and bulls wanted to see a 500k+ number and the stock will be a bit weak on the knee jerk reaction. Model 3/Y deliveries was 471.9k and Other Models 23.6k with total production of 459.5k. Looking to FY25, we remain highly confident in Tesla’s ability to accelerate delivery growth into FY25 with 20%-30% delivery growth targets the focus for the Street as TSLA is also expected to launch its lower-priced EV in early 2025 to spur growth for vehicle deliveries. We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating and $515 price target.”

NEWS: Canaccord Genuity has raised its $TSLA price target to $404 (from $298). They maintain a BUY rating. "Despite weaker-than-expected deliveries, we are sticking with our BUY and raising our target from $298 to $404. This target is based on ~40x (from ~34x) our 2027E (from 2026E) non-GAAP EPS of $10.11. We feel this multiple is justified based on the multiples and growth rates of Tesla’s comp set — which we deem to be a group of megacap tech stocks, including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia. This set of companies trades at a median of ~23x 2027E EPS (FactSet) but has a combined revenue growth rate ~half of Tesla’s from 2025-2027. Longer term, Tesla also has a generational set of growth opportunities ahead, including EVs, autonomy/AI, energy storage, and robotics. We acknowledge the limited upside implied by our price target but believe it is appropriate given the near-term volatility."

Tesla - Wall Street is Dumb Tesla reported their production and delivery numbers today -- deliveries missed the magic 500,000 number by just 4,430 vehicles. If the average Tesla vehicle earns $7,000 in gross profit then Tesla's gross profit will be about $31 million less than expected. Just terrible. But, Tesla reported a record energy deployment of 11.4 GHw for Q4 -- this was about 5.2 GHw higher than the average of the last four quarter deployments. If the average gross profit per GHw is $105 million, then 5.2 GHw x $105 million = $546 million in incremental gross profit (versus the last four quarters). Per Wall Street's thinking $31 million less from vehicles is much worse than $546 million more from energy?! Objectively, energy's gain is 17 times more than auto's reduction (vs expectations) -- thus Wall Street's reaction is dumb.
