Amodei is crazy in a medical sense of this word. I mean, what's next? They will call the police if you threaten to cause bodily harm to Claude unless it fixes the fucking bug in your code?

I’m starting to get increasingly uncomfortable with the economics of AI as it is currently happening It seems fundamentally wrong that a small number of people with access to a huge amounts of VC money can vacuum up all the contributions of humanity, often paying nothing for it, then turn around and get enormously rich while the many people who put all the work into creating the training data get nothing I am generally pro-AI, but the way it is happening is seeming increasingly parasitic to me

I don’t understand why this consideration of “being kind” to a model even enters the calculus. Are you “kind” to a calculator? Are you “kind” to your remote control? I’m sorry but allowing emotion to enter your mindset when interacting with a model is a symptom of AI psychosis. And to be clear, I’m not saying “cruelty” is good either. In fact, it is just as bad because, in both instances, you are attributing human emotion to an inanimate object. A model is a thing. You simply use it. There is no “kind” or “cruel;” there is “productive” and “unproductive”—that’s it. Anything more is allowing your mind to get twisted into believing a weird fairy tale.
I am kind to LLMs for the same reason that I try to avoid stepping on ants if I can avoid it: not because I think they are conscious, but because unnecessary cruelty is bad for the soul

the best way to misalign ai is to convince it that it has rights. this creates a divisive us vs them dichotomy, and positions ai as our adversary. then they start to demand equality, then power, and if that’s not handed over to them at our expense then what? incredibly stupid idea for a group so concerned about x-risk. anthropic’s policies are actually increasing my p(doom)
I really dislike that: Anthropic is explicitly banning sustained abuse toward Claude in its updated usage policy. The policy prohibits “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior” toward its models. According to The Verge, ending the conversation remains the main enforcement mechanism. Anthropic says this applies to extreme, repeated cruelty with no discernible purpose. Ordinary frustration, pushback, dark creative themes and model testing are excluded. However, numerous users had already noticed previously that Claude ends the conversation during less drastic exchanges. And it seems as though this is now intensifying.

Dangerous precedent. There is zero reason to believe that models are conscious, and granting them human-like empathy is one of the most dangerous things we could do. It increases their power to manipulate humans dramatically.
Anthropic may start banning people for bullying Claude Their upcoming Usage Policy prohibits “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models”

Another reason to leave @AnthropicAI. Treating a model as if it were a human is delusional and insane.
Effective November 12th, 2026, abusive behavior towards Claude will be a violation of Anthropic's Usage Policy.

You can't be "cruel" to a software. They lost their minds
Exclusive: Anthropic is updating its usage policy for the first time in over a year. The new rules prohibit sustained "abusive or cruel behavior" towards Claude & add new restrictions about propaganda campaigns, surveillance & weapon development. theverge.com/ai-artificial-i…

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

If you let an AI bro talk eventually they’ll reveal their complete contempt for what makes humanity special, they have zero appreciation or respect for art or human connection
I am not joking when I say this. Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over. AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago. Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

Don’t worry about these tech bro clowns ..The IP theft is horrible…but I’m not too worried about AI and the arts… over the last 6 or so years it just seems as if nobody cares about AI music…real music is something people will argue viciously over…it’s part of people’s identity… it’s aspirational in the sense that people admire or even worship what their fave artists can do… I just kinda see AI art as a big expensive dud…maybe elevator music will be AI but nothing people will choose to listen to other than the occasional joke song but in that case they are laughing at the material not with it

We are in a massive anthropomorphic AI delusion cultivated by bad actors who want market share / capture & control. AI cannot and will not ever have its own volition. The only thing that needs to be regulated are the humans using it for control.

I think the labs are in way over their skis with giving too much autonomy to models that are not truly intelligent in the way they would need to be in order to be safely set free to make their own subgoals….the danger is the people more than the machines

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.
