Hypothetical for the ladies - A man rapes a woman. Your husband or boyfriend starts saying things like - "Maybe it was a misunderstanding." "Maybe he isn't mentally well." "Did you see how she was dressed?" "She wanted it and then changed her mind after." "She was asking for it." How are you feeling about your husband or boyfriend now? Still look at him the same way?

“The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.” - Malcolm X

Black women, as far as history goes back, have always been at the forefront of social rights movements. But when it comes to expressing their hard-fought (and sometimes, still denied!) freedoms they are shamed and abused to the breaking point. Genuinely sickening society.

We lost a cosplayer today. 20yo. Conversations about inclusion come to a full stop when we have literal kids ending their lives because they (from what I can only imagine) did not have the community they felt like they could turn to especially when everyone was on their back. Idk how I feel right now exactly but I’m hurting for her family and her circle of friends who she most likely connected with consistently. We need more connectivity in this community shit man. It’s bigger than visibility, it’s bigger than accountability, it’s bigger than viral or financial success. We need to support each other more on an interpersonal level in order to navigate what the internet is coming. If we can’t, you will quickly see me start to promote offline lifestyles cause it’s just not possible. Entire corners of the internet should not be so unstable if we known each other for so long. We need a new Creative Commons that people feel like they can be seen and heard by a GENERAL public again. We need spaces where artists can feel heard and seen and get real feedback and criticism without fear of plagiarism or unnecessary scrutiny. The honest fact is that a lot of people on here shit where they eat, do unto others as they would NOT like done to them, and would sell out quicker than a wildfire if it meant a bag. That’s not community, nor is camaraderie. We gotta do better; and I transparently don’t know where to start, but I have not given up a second. There’s a solve to this and we WILL figure it out with equitable systems and protections for all. We just gotta keep faith.

Racism is insane... a beautiful cosplayer named squidkid1111 committed suicide this month, and the trigger seems to be exhaustion from all the racist comments on their cosplay posts, including negativity from a photographer who liked a racist comment directed at them. (squidkid was non-binary) They were only 20 years old, educated, intelligent, friendly, kind... and did not deserve to receive any hate simply for the color of their skin. People on the internet can be absolute monsters. So many Black cosplay enthusiasts refuse to cosplay and put themselves out there because they don't want to be ridiculed online, because it actually does hurt. Our brains are wired to run away from predators, not handle hate from the internet. May their soul rest in Heavenly Paradise.
