Pizarro Isang buhay na buong dangal na inilaan sa batas at sa pagtatanggol sa mga karapatan ng mga manggagawa. Ang Federation of Free Workers (FFW) ay nagbibigay-pugay kay Atty. Gregorio A. Pizarro—abogadong pangmanggagawa, guro, at lider-unyon na bihasa sa batas at hindi kailanman nakalimot kung kanino ito dapat maglingkod: sa katarungan at sa mga manggagawa. Mula sa kanyang pamumuno at paglilingkod bilang abogado sa Southern Philippines Federation of Labor (SPFL) hanggang sa pagtatatag at pamumuno sa Federation of Democratic Labor Organization (FDLO), nanindigan siya kasama ng mga manggagawang naghahangad ng dignidad, makatarungang sahod, at sama-samang tinig. Bilang guro, inihanda niya ang iba upang ipagpatuloy ang pakikibakang ito. Nakatala ang kanyang pangalan sa mga desisyon ng Korte Suprema. Nabubuhay ang kanyang pamana sa mga manggagawa at unyong kanyang pinaglingkuran. Sa likod ng bawat numero ng kaso, nakita niya ang isang pamilyang naghihintay ng katarungan. Siya ang abogadong mapagkakatiwalaan ng mga manggagawa—at ang katapatan ay hindi kailanman nabili. Sa kanyang pamilya, mga kasamahan, mga estudyante, at kapwa manggagawa, taos-puso naming ipinapaabot ang aming pakikiramay at pakikiisa. Paalam, Pañero. Salamat, Kasama. Tama po subalit wag kalimutan o i-delete yong dalawang dalawang unang puntos na sinasabi ng Article XI, Section 3(6) which sets out the sequence: 1.Sit as a senator trying an impeachment case. 2.Take an oath or affirmation for that purpose. 3.Decide the case: conviction requires the concurrence of two-thirds of all the Members of the Senate.

Hindi po ba illogical o katawatawa na absent ka tapos binilang ka Vice President Duterte is entitled to due process. So are the people entitled to a meaningful constitutional process for deciding the charges against her. Accountability should turn on the evidence and the votes of the impeachment court, not on empty seats.

Tama po! Walang katuturan o katawa-tawa naman na absent ka sa paglilitis, pero present ka sa bilang ng magpapasya sa kinakailangang boto. Kung hindi ka dumalo sa pagdinig at hindi nakibahagi sa pagsusuri ng kaso, sa anong lohika ka isasama sa bilang na magtatakda ng kinakailangang boto? Mahirap namang absent ka sa paglilitis—hindi nakinig sa mga testigo, hindi nagsuri ng ebidensiya, at hindi nakibahagi sa deliberasyon—pero isinasama ka pa rin sa denominator. Sa ganitong paraan, napapataas ang kinakailangang bilang ng boto kahit ang mga senador na hindi dumalo ay hindi naman tumupad sa tungkuling ipinagkatiwala sa impeachment court. Alinsunod sa una at ikalawang pangungusap ng Seksyon 3(6), Artikulo XI ng Saligang Batas, ang impeachment case ay dapat dinggin at pasyahan ng Senado na nakaupo bilang impeachment court. Dahil dito, ang makatuwirang batayan ng two-thirds ay ang mga senador na aktuwal na dumalo, nanumpa, at lumahok sa paglilitis—sila ang nakinig sa mga testigo, nagsuri ng ebidensiya, at nakibahagi sa paghatol. Hindi dapat isama sa denominator ang mga senador na hindi dumalo o hindi lumahok, sapagkat hindi sila naging bahagi ng aktuwal na pagdinig at pagdedesisyon sa kaso.

A SALUTE TO A VETERAN LABOR LEADER In Tribute to Atty. Gregorio A. Pizarro A life in law well lived, in defense of workers’ rights. The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) salutes Atty. Gregorio A. Pizarro—labor lawyer, educator, and veteran trade union leader who devoted his knowledge, courage, and leadership to the workers’ cause. From serving as General Secretary and later Legal Counsel of the Southern Philippines Federation of Labor (SPFL) to founding and leading the Federation of Democratic Labor Organization (FDLO), he stood alongside working people in their struggle for dignity, fair treatment, and a collective voice. As a teacher and law lecturer, he also helped prepare others to carry the work forward, sharing the knowledge that enables people to understand their rights and defend them. His defense of workers’ rights is recorded in a number of Supreme Court decisions; his enduring legacy lives on in the workers and unions he served. Behind those cases were people whose livelihoods, families, and futures mattered. In bringing their cause before the courts, he helped give their struggles a place in the country’s legal record. His life reminds us that the law finds its deepest purpose when it reaches those who need its protection—and that workers’ rights endure because people organize, defend them, and pass the responsibility to the next generation. To his family, colleagues, and the workers whose lives he touched, we extend our heartfelt condolences and solidarity. Paalam at maraming salamat, Atty. Pizarro.
