🌾Trial Update🌾
Last week, the @NSPerennia team seeded the second year of the global winter wheat landrace trial in Kentville. Just over 100 lines were eliminated based on factors like poor winter survival and disease susceptibility for a total of 341 lines seeded this year.
⏰👑 Early Planting is King 👑⏰
Based on four years of data from the Atlantic Crop Enhancement (ACE), formerly known as YEN, we looked at the effects of both planting date and seeding rate on yield in winter wheat in the region.
🌾Winter Wheat Seeding Date & Rate🌾
If winter wheat is planted before the end of September a seeding rate of 1.5-1.7 million viable seeds per acre is enough to maximize:
✅Root production
✅Initiate fall tiller formation
✅Hit sufficient yields

Today, on National Suicide Prevention Day, I want to remind everyone in agriculture and agri-food that you are not alone.
Farming and working in our food system can bring incredible pride, but it can also bring stress, uncertainty, and difficult days.
If you’re struggling, please reach out. Talk to a friend, a family member, a neighbour, or someone you trust.
You matter, your life matters, and there are people who deeply care about you.
You don’t have to face it alone. There is no shame in asking for help. Call 988 from anywhere in Canada, or visit 988.ca.
