The Atlanta VAHCS is currently celebrating Sterile Processing Service Week. Sterile Processing Services (SPS) plays a vital role in protecting patients and supporting clinical care. SPS staff clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute reusable medical instruments and equipment in accordance with approved policies, manufacturer instructions, and infection-prevention standards. Effective sterile processing requires careful attention to detail, accurate documentation, quality assurance, and collaboration with clinical departments. By ensuring that instruments are safe and ready for use, SPS helps prevent healthcare-associated infections and promotes safe, efficient patient care.
