GLP-1 drugs reveal so much about our culture: they’re relentlessly marketed to us online, on tv, on billboards; cheap unregulated formulations abound; fat people are under increasing pressure to take them—but then if you actually USE them it’s a failure you have to “admit” to

Biden likes what Israel is doing: he's mortgaging the security of the Mideast, and American foreign policy, to a fascist making war to avoid jail. Pray that Harris and the people around her arrest this madness if they take over. Trump will be worse.

i don't understand this economy when nursing homes are so expensive they bankrupt our grandparents but nursing home aides need to use food banks.
daycare is so expensive it eats up one parent's entire paycheck and yet daycare providers only make $10/hr and need second jobs.

Everyone is always like, Twitter is bad for your mental health, Facebook is bad for your mental health, YouTube is bad for your mental health.
You know what’s bad for my mental health? Microsoft Excel. Don’t see anyone warning others against that bitch ass piece of software.

the Haitian thing is such an old school blood libel that it feels like a noticeable escalation. like Sartre described in his essay on antisemitism they know they’re lying and they’re enjoying it.

The Haitian people have been through more artificial and enforced isolation and privation than any other on earth, and all because they dared to stand up to genuine, from-Hell evil two centuries ago, and it disgusts me to see people organizing a digital pogrom against them

Fun fact: John Bolton masterminded the concept that money-in-politics is not corruption, it's free speech.
Then he got the Supreme Court to enshrine that idea into law, and now here we are in the Golden Age Of Corruption.

It's unbelievable how many dynamic companies broke their streaks of engineer-CEOs for the first time in the 2000s, installing their first MBA/finance CEOs, who then promptly made fundamental strategic errors that nixed the company's future, that are now becoming obvious.

It's so insane that we're having a conversation about price gouging as if it's a crazy idea when the CEO of the fourth largest supermarket chain was just caught SHREDDING documents to stop the government from learning about planned illegal price hikes. xitter.cf/matthewstoller/status/…

This is bonkers. On the eve of the Kroger-Albertsons merger trial, Albertsons's CEO Vivek Sankaran has been deleting text messages that the government has demanded be preserved as part of the investigation.
That's SHREDDING documents. storage.courtlistener.com/re…

How economists think

Thursday thoughts:
1. Peter Thiel is trying to create a global currency and overpower governments.
2. He and Musk know that they can't win elections, because they are a tiny minority.
3. They believe they can use technology as an "alternative" to politics.
4. Everyone on the laughable "Crypto4Harris" call last night is a fool, and complicit.
5. Democrats and the public in general need to get educated about what they're dealing with.
6. This effort is part of a historical anarcho-libertarian, tax-revolt minority that has captured the Trump and RFK networks, and is working on capturing Harris, too.
7. There is no workable middle ground, no room for compromise; give no comfort, no quarter, no oxygen, no fuel.
Contact your representatives and let them know what's at stake. People are naive about this right now, but this is all anyone is going to be talking about in a few months if we let this fester and continue. Onward!

Spoiler: This happens in EVERY state that adopts school vouchers. The wealthiest people in the state benefit from having their private school tuition supplemented while the working poor pay for it. They then raise the prices to keep the poors out of the choice places.
Parents thought the tax credit would reduce what they pay. Instead, many schools raised tuition in a comparable amount to the tax credit. oklahoman.com/story/news/202…
