Our @NASAJPL team brought a preview of Mars exploration to Huntington Beach with their SkyFall demo. Building on Ingenuity, SkyFall will deploy three helicopters in midair to Mars and use ground penetrating radar to search for subsurface ice. In addition to other scientific instruments, this effort will show how we could potentially identify landing sites for future Mars missions.  Fission powered spacecraft and helicopters exploring another planet to help prepare for Americans to follow. Hard not to get excited about this mission.

Happy 91st birthday to Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke, the 10th man to walk on the Moon! 🎂 Duke was the CAPCOM in Mission Control as Apollo 11 landed on the lunar surface on July 20, 1929. He said that his anxiety in Mission Control during the Apollo 11 landing was worse than that he experienced during the Apollo 16 landing. We wish him many happy landings in the days ahead!

Milt Windler was one of the great pioneers who showed the world what NASA is capable of during both the best and most challenging of days. As a Maroon Flight Director, he helped guide Apollo 8 around the Moon, played a critical role in bringing Apollo 13 safely home, and carried that same commitment through Skylab and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. His generation set the bar incredibly high. It is our responsibility to pick up and continue where they left off.

Leaving these three (plus one on the way) is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But that has always been the nature of exploration. Words from Fridtjof Nansen, describing his departure for the North Pole, resonate in my mind:

Did you spot us at the Cleveland @Browns stadium (or soaring overhead) yesterday? ✈️✨🏈 Football fans at the Sept. 27 game engaged with @NASAAdmin Jared Isaacman, astronaut Doug Wheelock, and other team members from Glenn — Cleveland's very own @NASA center — to learn more about the future of flight and space exploration. During the national anthem, Glenn employees Greeta Thaikattil and Heather Brown took to the skies with Isaacman and his Freedom 250 F-5 team as they performed the Browns' first-ever NASA flyover.

Hard to beat a Sunday flying an F-5 over a packed stadium! Thanks to the @NFL and @Browns for welcoming our Inspiration Tour. Enjoyed meeting fans alongside Doug Wheelock and our @NASAglenn team and sharing what’s ahead for America in space. A lot to look forward to, and we want you along for the ride.

Home teams are 2-for-2 when @NASA performs the flyover, which is technically a streak.
.@NASAAdmin in the skies over Cleveland for today’s NASA flyover!

Today we honor Neil Armstrong, who passed away on this day in 2012. Neil will forever be remembered for his work on Apollo 11. But beyond this, he should be remembered for his grace, humility, and amazing courage. Next time you look at the Moon, give a little wink for him. – at Wapakoneta, OH

It was my pleasure to personally host NASA leadership in Montana to align around the Ignition priorities and make sure the team is focused and moving safely and urgently. Decisions of the past have made the second space race closer than it ever needed to be. Under @POTUS’ national space policy, and with the resources from the Working Family Tax Cut Act, we have the tools to accelerate Artemis, return American astronauts to the Moon, build the base, rebuild the X-plane portfolio, launch more missions of science and discovery, and get America underway on nuclear power in space so the third race will never be in question.

…and many more! 🎂🎈🎉 We wish a very happy birthday to the incomparable Gene Kranz, a legendary flight director who served our human spaceflight program for 34 years! Kranz is best known for his leadership in Mission Control during Apollo 13, but his composure and determination still inspire us today.

68 years ago today, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, creating NASA. In the decades since, Americans have walked on the Moon, built the Space Shuttle, assembled the International Space Station, explored every planet in our solar system, transformed aviation, and expanded humanity’s understanding of Earth and the universe. Now we’re writing the next chapter. We’re returning to the Moon with Artemis, laying the foundation for a sustained lunar presence, preparing for the first human missions to Mars, accelerating scientific discovery, and partnering with industry to build a thriving space economy. In the next 68 years, we will continue to accomplish what many believe to be impossible.
Ever upward! 🚀 The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 was signed into law 68 years ago today, authorizing the creation of a new civilian agency dedicated to the study and exploration of space. Three months later, @NASA was born!

Today marks the 90th anniversary of Armstrong’s first flight! On this day in 1936, Neil and his father, Stephen, took to the sky in Warren, OH. That flight solidified a passion for aviation, setting Neil on the path that eventually made him the first person to walk on the Moon. – at Warren, OH

Can you see our Moon rocket lift off from your backyard? Skywatchers in Florida and southern Georgia will have a shot. Check out this map to see when you should look up! Artemis II is targeted to launch no earlier than April 1.

Thank you to the NASA workforce, industry partners, and international allies who made Ignition possible. We have the vision, resources, and experience. Now we move beyond presentations and PowerPoint and execute @POTUS’s vision for space superiority. It’s time to start believing again.

The days of NASA launching Moon rockets every 3 years are over.  The plan that we announced today will mean flying with greater frequency, ensuring that we will deliver on @POTUS’ directive of returning Americans to the Moon in 2028.

The weather and orbital mechanics cooperated, giving us a great @Space_Station pass over @NASAKennedy for the Artemis II wet dress rehearsal! I got a long lens (1600mm) set up in the WORF (Window Observational Research Facility) window in the lab and got a few nice shots of SLS (Space Launch System) on the pad as it is getting ready for the test. It has also been a beautiful full Moon (this shot from the Cupola yesterday). Go Artemis II!
