My first, first author paper is now on arXiv! We investigate how different parameterizations can bias L dwarf retrievals. The headline? We need non-uniform-with-pressure abundance profiles for prominent rainout species! arxiv.org/abs/2301.08258

.@macleans: ‘Heated Rivalry’ Is Anti-Dystopia Art “‘Heated Rivalry’ offers a cinematic universe that references our own, but casts an alternate vision of a world that’s possible — a world of pleasure, mutuality, humanness, intimacy, creativity and joy. (…) It has broken through the onslaught of pop culture visions that make dystopia’s cynical, joyless futures seem inexorable precisely because it is a piece of art that not only shows us, but allows us to feel that another world is truly possible. That lets us somatically experience a future beyond what exists now, a future we all actually want. Joy in the present makes joy in the future seem plausible. And that, too, is hope.” 🔗 macleans.ca/culture/heated-r…

We found methane in emission on an isolated brown dwarf, which may indicate that it has an aurora! I'm so happy I got to be part of this team lead by @jfaherty. I learned a ton and it has me super excited for all of the unexpected discoveries yet to come with JWST!
Brown dwarf W1935 posed a mystery. Webb found that methane in this object’s atmosphere was emitting infrared light, despite no obvious energy source. Using clues from our solar system, scientists found a possible explanation in aurorae: go.nasa.gov/3HddFPe #AAS243

This is awesome...y'all could make one quite small choice that would do a whole lot of good here! #PatientsNotPatents

Hey Astro Tweeps. I'm looking for input/advice on LGBTQIA friendly Astro grad programs in the US or abroad, especially those that are trans friendly. Happy to hear from anyone, but I'm particularly interested in hearing from grad students currently/recently at these programs.

We celebrate the life of Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek actor, trailblazer, and role model, who symbolized to so many what was possible. She partnered with us to recruit some of the first women and minority astronauts, and inspired generations to reach for the stars.

Fun fact about this picture. @KVandorou and I were standing in front of @kerockcliffe @AstroMelRow and @DKrolikowski - before we had even met! Couldn’t guess we would become friends during the conference ☺️ #exo4
Thanks to everyone for an awesome #Exo4! I’m so glad that our hard work paid off! What if we threw a party and no one came? Luckily we didn’t need to find out. Hooray for the largest in-person exoplanet meeting ever! 😊 Travel home safely all!

god i hate it when gunfire decides to unfold
Gunfire by British soldiers unfolded in Northern Ireland 50 years ago, taking over a dozen lives and later becoming known as Bloody Sunday. As Northern Ireland reflects on the grisly day, symbols of division and hostility still hold their power. nyti.ms/3u9RnZx

Ariane 5 now building up speed, with a slight, planned, decrease in altitude to 185 km. It's a good height - below where the space debris is, but safely higher than all the reindeer...
