The formation of the ASSD followed a suggestion by the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) in 1985 that a new Division be established based upon the technical activities of the E-42 Committee on Surface Analysis of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) #WhatisAVS
The Applied Surface Science Division began operation on November 19, 1985 with Cedric Powell as the first Chair. #WhatisAVS
They also mean more involved! 😏 #WhatisAVS
ASSD works towards the promotion of science and technology relevant to the modification of interfaces to optimize the stability, reactivity or other properties of components and/or devices. #WhatIsAVS
ASSD promotion of science and technology relevant to
methods for characterizing these interfaces for composition, bonding, topology and structure. #WhatisAVS
Pleased that there are many women who participate in ASSD, and many in our leadership! #whatisavs

Our current chair Kateryna Artyushkova @scimomof2 is a senior staff scientist at Physical Electronics Company phi.com. Her research in applied surface science fits into the focus area of @AssdAvs division #WhatisAVS
ASSD promotes science and technology relevant to
understanding solid/gas, solid/solid, and solid/liquid interfaces of practical importance #whatisavs
Please help fill up those ASSD sessions with all that cool stuff you have been doing while locked in Covid isolation having nothing better to do! #AVSSymposium
What is the ASSD? Well, our mission for one is to provide a forum for research and education in the preparation, characterization, modification, and utilization of surfaces and interfaces in practical applications. #WhatisAVS
We don't all have students, but for those of us who do... #appliedsurfacesciencestudent #ASSD
