A different approach to making 💡⚒️ At Asprey Studio, every piece is crafted with ethical purpose and specialist knowledge. √ Made in-house: materials are sourced locally and ethically considered. √ Zero waste: materials are melted and reused. Digital pre-visualization guides every production stage. √ Made to order: each piece is shaped by skilled hands refined over years of studies and training. Contemporary craftsmanship against mass production.

From screen to sterling silver. Asprey Studio’s sculptural interpretation of LUCK by @jackbutcher demonstrates the Studio’s approach to contemporary craftsmanship, translating digital artworks into meticulously handcrafted physical works. The artwork premiered at @artbasel Hong Kong in March this year, presented by @silkarthouse Every piece is conceived and produced entirely in-house at the atelier in Kent, England, where traditional silversmithing techniques continue to evolve through collaborations with contemporary artists.

From the artist who humanised the computer 💡 💾 In the early 1980s, Susan Kare (b. 1954) designed many of the original icons and typefaces for the Apple Macintosh, including the Happy Mac that greeted users at startup, as well as the Floppy Disk and Trash Can icons that helped define the visual language of personal computing. Working within a 32 × 32 pixel grid, she transformed technical constraints into some of the most enduring symbols of the digital age. For the 'Esc Keys' collection, Susan Kare created 30 new icons exclusively for Asprey Studio. Each has been handcrafted in sterling silver as a wearable pendant, bringing her distinctive visual language from the screen into the physical world. Do you know what the 925 or leopard stamps on silver mean — or what they have to do with Pound Sterling? 💡🪙 Or that the system behind it is more than 700 years old? Long before blockchain, there was the hallmark. One of the world's oldest systems for verifying provenance and authenticity. Introduced in 1300, UK hallmarks are a series of official marks that certify a precious metal object's composition, origin and authenticity. In 1478, the London Assay Office was established at Goldsmiths' Hall, where precious metal objects were tested before receiving their official marks — giving the word 'hallmark'. The 925 mark denotes sterling silver — an alloy containing at least 92.5% pure silver. The sterling standard became so trusted that it gave rise to the name Pound Sterling, when English silver coins were struck to the same recognised standard. The historic leopard's head identifies the piece as having been hallmarked in London. Shown here is the hallmark on WORK by @jackbutcher, handcrafted in sterling silver by Asprey Studio at our atelier in Kent, England. The sculpture bears the first official marks registered by the London Assay Office for Jack Butcher's Visualize Value (VV), linking his practice to a tradition of craftsmanship spanning more than seven centuries. WORK traces the migration of labour from the physical hand to the digital cursor. While the digital piece reflects on work becoming increasingly abstract, the object itself is handcrafted in sterling silver and independently hallmarked — emphasising the enduring value of skilled making, scarce materials and verified provenance, principles that underpin Asprey Studio's practice. #Handcraft #BritishSilversmith #Tradition #DigitalArt

"I believe craft takes on special meaning in an age of generative media. What happens when a digital artwork enters the atelier? Looking back at @ArtBasel Hong Kong, where Asprey Studio created handcrafted sculptural counterparts to digital artworks by @jackbutcher, presented by @silkarthouse. Through collaborations with artists working with technology, the Studio continues to foster new dialogues between physical making and digital artistic practice.

The most valuable material is time. Years of specialist knowledge, material expertise and craftsmanship come together to realise works that could not be achieved through conventional production. Introducing Asprey Studio Private: a private commissioning service for collectors and institutions seeking to realise one-of-a-kind handcrafted works. Working across precious and non-precious materials, each commission is developed directly with Chief Creative Officer Alastair Walker and the Studio's multidisciplinary atelier team of young artisans, master silversmiths, sculptors, and digital animators. From the earliest conversations and material exploration to digital visualisation and final fabrication, every work is conceived and produced entirely in-house at the Asprey Studio 10,000-sqf atelier in Kent, England. Did you know Albrecht Dürer never actually saw a rhinoceros when he created his famous 1515 woodcut and drawing? Working from a written description and a sketch sent from Portugal, Dürer created an image that became Europe's definitive representation of the animal for more than two centuries. Invited by the @britishmuseum to study Dürer's original preparatory drawing, Asprey Studio reinterpreted the celebrated print as a handcrafted sterling silver sculpture. Comprising more than 90 individually crafted elements, each work takes between three and six months to complete using a combination of digital sculpting, engraving and traditional silversmithing techniques.

A look behind the making of @_deafbeef's sculptural counterparts to his generative digital artworks. Sound on🔈 Paying homage to the oscilloscopic imagery of the early 1950s — among the earliest examples of electronic art — 'Synth Poem: Oscilloscope' is hand-forged by the artist, who brings together engineering, coding, music, and blacksmithing in a single practice. The sculpture incorporates an electronic soundscape that can be manually tuned. Premiered at @artbasel in Basel in June and presented by @aspreystudio, the work reflects a natural dialogue between the artist's multidisciplinary practice and Asprey Studio's longstanding expertise in traditional craftsmanship. The collaboration reflects a dialogue between traditional handcraft and advanced digital technologies, rooted in a shared commitment to innovation.

A Highlight at Basel was the Platinum-Palladium hand prints of ‘Chronophotograph’ by @_deafbeef in @AspreyStudio booth. A digitally native artwork and its physical redemption is rarely nailed. The grain in the prints have a softness of detail that only analogue print can have.
